Anime shirts

After AWA this year, I realized just how bad (that is, non-existent) my anime shirt game is. I think the only anime related shirt I own is the one that came with the Kick-heart kickstarter, and I'm actually not sure where that is at the moment.

So how's everyone else's anime/manga shirt game? Or is there anything you wish you really had?

I myself would like to get some Patlabor clothing but justifying the cost to import those from Japan is a bit of a hurdle (I tried picking up an SV2 hoodie from Amazon JP but the order got canceled). I find it hard to buy t-shirts in general because I already have too many t-shirts (though they're all boring). I know UNIQLO has some pretty sweet old-school anime related shirts but they seem to get sold out really fast.

Now that you mention it...

I don't know, I've never really shopped for any anime related clothing before. Especially with my budget, I can't really go out and blow a lot of money on shirts. And finding shirts with anything other than Sailor Moon or Dragon Ball in stores is really rare.

If I could find one, I would totally rock a NERV t-shirt. That would look pretty rad.

Totally recommend hitting the Hot Topic website the day after Thanksgiving for their Black Friday sale. All the shirts, including the anime ones, are $10 each. They also have a lot of non-SM/DBZ shirts as well including a lot of Studio Ghibli and Pokémon stuff. I usually buy several during this sale. Allows me to add new shirts and rotate the older ones to workout clothes, and pick up a couple gifts for anime loving friends as well.

To answer the question, anime shirts are pretty much only what I wear during warmer months when I'm off work (or, if it's a black shirt, under my uniform). A lot of my shirts feature Eevee and Pikachu, but I have older shirts from Cowboy Bebop, Sailor Moon, Totoro and a couple of shirts from various Anime Expo and Anisong events.

Con shirts from the early cons I attended, if only for the nostalgia. Only way that will likely happen is if someone gets too fat and puts their old one on Ebay, though.

Maybe too subtle, but my latest anime shirt was one of the official shirts for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics -- they're building the new stadium now, hopefully with less military secrets in the sub=basement. (^_^)

My modest shirt collection is a mix of con shirts and production shirts dating back to the mid-90's. For a time, ACEN did a great job of putting GoH art on their shirts. I wore the '98 Sonoda tee this year which got a few old-timer salutes. My favorite con shirt though is from AX96; that one has color sketches from four guests.
In the standard merch line I am particularly fond of my NGE shirt and glow-in-the-dark BLACK MAGIC M66 shirt. Given their age, the screen printing has held up really well.
One of my club bros worked at Kinko's copy center, where he could make heat-set transfers for tees on a color copier. We made all sorts of "homemade" otaku wear from pencil boards, magazine pages, whatever. Those disintegrated in crappy laundromat machines after 2-3 years ;)

I used to have a lot of shirts from various series - Bubblegum Crisis, Project A-ko, Dominion, Dragonball Z, etc. All shows I was into. The only ones that survived are an Urusei Yatsura shirt that I need to loose a couple more pounds before it fits right again and an Evangelion shirt I wear to the gym/dojo or to mow the lawn in. In the last couple of years I got some shirts off Internet T-shirt sites because they were slick (AKIRA, Chrono Trigger).

I have some old AWA convention t-shirts packed up that I want to do something with (not wear) but haven't come across any ideas yet.

Thanks to work sending me t-shirts every so often, I have way too many, even if I wanted to get back into the anime shirt game for real, but every now and again I look back at some of the shirts at Kimono My House and think about having some of those back again.

I decided to box up my Animazement shirts since i'd rather hold onto them and keep them fresh so they don't start to wear out. I have a literal stack of 20+ nerd/anime shirts that are for "con use only" that I wear for cons or other nerd venues that i'll use to attend too. Some have shrank over the years because of them being made of cotton, so if I loose a few more pounds they'll fit properly on me.

I've been ingesting mostly La Croix to compensate for soda, and it's really helped me slowly slim down.

I have a few, though I wish I still had some of the ones I had when I was a kid. I wore em til they basically fell apart, though, sadly. I had so many bootleg Sailor Moon ones (back when Hot Topic sold bootleg anime shirts and was still considered a "goth/music" store rather than a nerd/popculture store like it is now), but now I think I only have 2...I'd love to get some more anime shirts, actually, but I'm particular about what I get so I just haven't found any I really like. I think the last one I got was a JJBA one from a con like 4 years ago?
