ASCII Art

The roughly mid-90's and earlier (generally pre-Toonami, pre-anime boom) era of anime & manga fandom: early cons, clubs, tape trading, Nth Generation VHS fansubs, old magazines & fanzines, fandubs, ancient merchandise, rec.arts.anime, and more!

ASCII Art

Post by Daniel »

Stumbled onto some DB ASCII art: http://www.geocities.jp/wj_log/AA/DB.html

They have more from other series here: http://www.geocities.jp/wj_log/

We've got some up here: http://animepast.net/Museum/Old_Digital ... %281994%29

Anyone else have any good ones? :)

Oh gosh, that reminds me! The old Anime Archive BBS had some great colored ASCII art (or was that called ANSI?) for its login screens. I think they were randomized.

Thanks for sharing!

Yea, ANSI art was popular: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ANSI_art

Any that you remember in particular?

My favorite one was Madoka from KOR. That was used on the title screen of the Anime Archive BBS, drawn by a guy named Fred von Graf, IIRC. Looking up that name on search engines doesn't find anything. Actually, looking up ANSI art on search engines does not really result in anything because unfortunately, it's a DOS driven thing. I can't remember exactly, but not even Telnet could produce the colored ANSI art.

They have some stuff over here: http://archives.thebbs.org/index.html

I haven't done a completely thorough search yet, but ansi art does indeed seem to be rare. It would be nice if we could a hold of some and stick them up on AnimePast. :) Maybe some ex-sysops still have their old stuff...
