Biomecha 1994 - Now (PinkAppleJam)

The roughly mid-90's and earlier (generally pre-Toonami, pre-anime boom) era of anime & manga fandom: early cons, clubs, tape trading, Nth Generation VHS fansubs, old magazines & fanzines, fandubs, ancient merchandise, rec.arts.anime, and more!

Biomecha 1994 - Now (PinkAppleJam)

Post by PinkAppleJam »

I'm unsure who follows my Facebook spam, but I hope it is ok to post up some links to my old comic! :3

So as a teen (around 1993-1994) I decided to create my own manga-inspired comic after being heavily influenced by Rumiko Takahashi, Adam Warren and many more series published in English in the 90's. There weren't many UK kids making comics influenced by games/manga/anime at the time so I decided to put pen to paper and start compiling comics in print. I sold them at anime cons mainly, then later online via a UK circle (Sweatdrop.com, which I helped to co-found).

Book 1 has been relettered and is being hosted online at http://www.BiomechaComic.com. I'm currently re-toning and re-lettering Biomecha Intro (the prologue to Book 2) and Issue 5 (to kick off Book 2).

The idea is, when my Patreon reaches $100/month Book 2 will start to be uploaded for the very first time online! The funds will then also help contribute towards printing costs fro Books 1 & 2, current running costs plus future creation costs for Book 3 (the final book of the series).

Out of this project, Book 1 and 2 have been completed. They're being refined (relettered, tidied up) for publishing purposes. Book 3 has been thumbnailed but not drawn up yet. It's sort of become my life's work (!) but I really want to finish it, despite it's age. My goal is to take everything I've learnt from the process, and create new webcomics (and get them printed up in a similar manner) afterwards.

My Patreon is here. The funds saved from it are being used to kickstart saving for the book printing process :: http://www.patreon.com/PinkAppleJam
$1/month gets my eternal gratitude!
$5/month gets monthly e-missives via the Patreon system and previews.
$15/month gets biannual gift packs sent to them through the post wherever you live :3
[Subscriptions are not forever, you can cap your limit and/or cancel your sub after however many months you prefer <3]

My FB art page :: https://www.facebook.com/PinkapplejamArt I can access FB easily so random art updates go here too.

Thanks for reading :D

Thanks so much, Usamimi <3  :D

I've been AWOL but I've been working on the books' edited release :) Book 1 is available again! Copies are up on Etsy right now :D
I will be at London’s May MCM with these, but in case you are not going (and I am guessing not because this is a US-centric forum ), here is the listing and a discount code - use code “BiomechaMay15” for £2 off in May 2015! https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/232809165 I ship worldwide!

Biomecha 1 contains original works from 1994-2006. If you want to see what sort of stuff was being made in the Western manga scene in the 90’s, this is probably a good place to start! This story is a long-running UK self-published comic that has been stylistically influenced by many years of Japanese pop-culture media. It started in the 90’s and has followed me through school, college, Uni and my postgrad working life. It’s a story of a random friendship group, trying to deal with stuff that isn’t immediately obvious; it is a mashup of sci-fi teen drama and some romance, too.

[*]Book 1 is 194m x 127mm (“Tokyopop” book size), original story, 12mm spine width, 200 pages
[*]Book 1 is perfect-bound, all content digitally printed
[*]Try before you buy? Comic available digitally online at http://www.BiomechaComic.com

Thank you as always for your support!

Of interest, my old UK comics studio has a flash sale every month, and the books are a steal.
Currently up is Cold Sweat and Tears which was compiled of works created in the early 2k's :)

I haven't posted for a long time, but quick update that I post on my Instagram a lot and I'm still working on my comic! :o

My health has been rubbish so my comic output has slowed, so I am recalibrating my output next year based on how I function these days :)
