The old-school anime DVD/BD news thread.

It doesn't look like we have one of these, so I thought I would start one.

Apparently Rightstuf is going to release the original Space Adventure Cobra TV show. That sounds pretty dope.

I feel like I have been missing out on a lot of news like this. Does anyone know of other old-school anime that has been released in the last year or so?

Obviously there's also The Rose of Versailles as mentioned in another thread.

Another classic Rightstuf release: Princess Knight.

Rightstuf also recently released Martian Successor Nadesico which is mid-90's.

Yes, this is a good idea to have a thread about this. Thanks for starting it up!

Danth--

Locke the Superman is already out. I own a copy. Little Nemo and Golden Boy are also already out.

A note about Princess Knight--it will be dub only, and edited. It is the english language version that ran internationally in the 60s and 70s.

Ninja Scroll was released on DVD and Bluray a few months ago by Sentai Filmworks.

The original Captain Harlock TV series is available for streaming on Funimation's website, but it's blocked to me because I live in Japan. Is Discotek really going to release it? That news is as of April of last year...

Discotek mentioned on their Facebook site that Harlock is tentatively scheduled for a June or July 2013 release. They're still a pretty small company, so it takes them longer to do TV series. I think Fist of the North Star took almost 2 years to finish?

UY, Maison Ikkoku, & Ranma 1/2 on Blu-Ray...REGION FREE!

OMG OMG. While I would love to get all of these, my wallet says there's only one series I should be getting. So I am totally getting those Ranma BDs!!! Especially since they come with some bonuses. And I'm doubtful we'll be seeing these stateside anytime soon...

I have never imported DVDs before though, has anyone used Amazon.jp to preorder something to be sent to the US before? Or is there any other sites I can get these?

Oh, WOW, I knew that they were releasing all 3 on blu-ray, but I didn't realize they were gonna be region free! O__O That's awesome! I'd totally buy all of them, but...around $500 for each set after shipping is WAY too much for me. ;3; (I'd want to get each complete series, so that would be close to $5000 for all of it!) I did post a comment on Dicotek's Facebook about these coming out on blu-ray...and that it would be SUPER awesome to see them released here (HINT HINT). I'm almost hoping the reason Viz let the Ranma DVDs lapse into out of print was to pave the way for this re-releases, but...who knows. *sigh*

oh, and ordering stuff from Amazon.jp is pretty easy: http://cdn.halcyonrealms.com/japan/how- ... ing-guide/ This is about 3 years old, but I'm pretty sure it's basically the same still.

I assume those BDs don't have subtitles.
