Out of curiosity, has anyone bought/read the novels yet? I'm wondering what people think of the translation & story. ^^

I would like to get around to reading them, but I just don't have the time right now. They are on my list of potential reads so I haven't forgotten about them.

I've pre-ordered the first 2, still waiting for the second to ship. I started reading the first novel the other week while we were traveling. So far, so good. I am relatively familiar with LoGH/GinEiDen, particularly near the beginning of the series, so I am not sure if I am flying through this because I am already familiar or if it just feels really condensed from the series. Not being familiar with the Japanese novels outside of how they were adapted for the OAVs, I would say they are a decent translation. I am pleased that there are a lot of German terms used in the series (and presumably the novels themselves) that are explained in context but are otherwise left untouched, such as the terms Hauptplanet or the Rosenritter, etc.
If you're not familiar with LoGH at all and are considering these - do it and don't be intimidated. They are easy reads to follow with zero knowledge of the series. If you like epic space opera, these are sure to please.

Thanks Drew! I only only ever saw one of the LOGH movies I think? It was so long ago! So I was wondering if the novels are a gooid jumping in point. Its nice to know they're a good read!

Re: Gauging interest for Legend of The Galactic Heroes novels
Yeah, probably the most I could take in of LoGH in one sitting was the prequel movie, My Conquest is the Sea of the Stars. Other than that, I've seen less than the first story arc of the main series. Novels are a fine starting point (I mean, I guess they are supposed to be that way, since they came first ); there are several names that appear most frequently in the novel so far are main or fairly notable characters like Yang Wenli, Count Reinhard von Lohengramm and Siegfried Kircheis, etc.
I just checked Amazon the other day and Vol. 2 is supposed to be in my hands by the 19th, so I guess I have some reading to do this weekend to get the first volume finished by the time it arrives.
