I dislike it. Nice graphics though. Will probably wait out the new Halo or get The Witcher III.

Just started Skyrim and I'm hooked. It's hard for me to believe this game came out in 2011 and I'm only getting into it now. I guess it was the hype that probably kept me away and some of the gameplay looked only so-so. But I was wrong, it's a blast and the amount of freedom given to the player is unbelievable. It makes Rockstar's stable of games GTA, Read Dead pale in comparison with regards to open world gaming.

I've also downloaded the free-to play game, Onigiri, for the PS4. Pretty fun so far. Not sure how long I'll be into it, and I'm not huge into MMOs, but I can see playing it for the next few weeks.

I'm playing Trails in the Sky FC which is on sale this week due to the SC being released.

One thing that annoys me about PC games is that ideal game performance is always predicated on the strength of your PC. Not to mention all the bugs and little irritations you have to adjust to try to maximize performance. PC gamers look down on console users but that's one advantage for the console. Trails in the Sky is running OK on my computer but I haven't yet figured out how to fix the screen tearing issues I'm having.

Yeah, that's why I gave up computer gaming. I remember when I wanted to buy Star Wars Dark Forces 2, I went to the store and nearly bought it, but then I saw the minimum computer requirements. Not only was my CPU and ram inadequate, I also needed to buy a new video card. I just gave up with computer gaming. At least with consoles, you know that the games will be compatible, and typically that console will allow you to buy new games for the next 6-8 or so years. You can also relax in your comfy chair, too.

Just started playing DmC Devil May Cry. I've only played one of the games in this franchise a few years ago the fourth one, I think and this 'reboot' is a huge improvement, especially with the controls. I think I'm about halfway through and really digging it. Each 'mission' has a unique level design, which keeps it feeling fresh. Plus, I like the humor.

Played some Duke Nukem 3D last night. What a throwback. I played a ton of Doom in high school, but never really got around to trying Duke Nukem, even though I saw classmates play it in my school's computer room. Word to the wise if you are playing Duke Nukem 3D on modern computers for the first time, remember to download the free eduke32 fan patch which allows it to run on modern computers smoothly. It chugs a ton on Dosbox.

Just picked up Transformers Devastation. I'm a huge fan of the original '80s show, especially the 1986 animated film--and this game nailed the style, tone and feel of it perfectly. The original voice actors are used and the character designs look like they've been lifted directly from an episode of the G1 series.

My only complaint is the lack of the Transformers theme song, or better yet, any of the music from the '86 movie. Fortunately, the PS4 lets you add your own soundtrack to most games via USB flash drive, so I'm pumping the movie soundtrack while playing.

In college, My friend I'd met on an anime BBS was a DeVry student, and I'd go over to his friend's place and play DOS network games of Duke Nukem 3D using coaxial networking. It was the most fun to play the game level by level in cooperative mode. it was around that time that keyboards started having that Windows key. One guy would accidentally tap that button, bringing him out of DOS and back to his Windows 95 desktop, and it would crash our game. Ah, memories.

One of my local FYE's is closing down and having decent sales, so I figured I'd give The Order 1886 a try. I heard very mixed things about this game. Basically, it's set in an alternate version of London circa 1886 where a royal order of knights hunt down werewolves. The story's actually far more deeper than that and it's very cinematic, like you're playing through a movie. The graphics, art design, characters, and gameplay are phenomenal. I think I'm about halfway through the story, so far, and I have yet to see why this game has received so much hate in many gamer circles.

I also finished Transformers Devastation. I'm a huge G1 Transformers fan, so this game should've been right up my alley. I love that the game looks like it's taken directly from the show but, overall, I wasn't thrilled with it. Very repetitive gameplay, terribly repetitive level design, and not very deep when it comes to a move list. War for Cybertron and even Fall of Cybertron still remain top tier for Transformers games, and were easily some of my favorite games on the PS3. Transformers Devastation felt more like a 15 or 20 downloadable game that one would find on PSN.

Couldn't you hook up your PS3 to the TV using your PS2's composite component cable? Granted, you'd have to play in 480i, or 720p at best.

Anyway, I've been playing around with Realms of Arkania, the original trilogy. I bought a bunch of old games from GOG in their winter sale this past month.

llj I think you just saved the day! I get so negative sometimes. I just pulled the PS3 out of the closet and I see the AV Multi out port beside the HDMI port. Thanks a lot man! I am going to Best Buy now to get a cable. I get so accustomed to things going wrong I just surrender when I can accept the loss. I really did want to play my Blu ray's and play Life is Strange. Thanks again!

Oh, well, not to damper the enthusiasm, but it might not play some blu-ray movies if you only hook it up with the composite or component wires, because it will only output in 480i or 720p. Some blu-rays will only run in true 1080p, which is only through HDMI. But you can definitely play almost any PS3 game in 480i, my PS3 is hooked up through component Red green blue for example, and I only use my PS3 for games.

Instead of buying new cables, have you tried using your PS2 AV cables? I believe they will work with the PS3.

i just tried the new cables and the tv did not get a signal. I will have to try my old PS2 cables tomorrow. There is a chance the new cable were defective.

Possible something else is wrong with the PS3. It's a very brittle console.

I have heard that PS3 are very notorious for breaking down. Most of the time it is an overheating problem. I remember moving the small table the PS was sitting on and it lost signal immediately. I hate planned obsolescence. They plan to build things that break easy. I think I may have had that PS a good three years at least. I barely used it for gaming and I played my Bluray movies maybe once a month.

Thanks for the heads up! I may not be replacing the PS at least for another couple weeks to a couple of months. I found out there is a store that has a couple of copies of Ghost in the Shell video game and I remember I really liked that game. I want to get both copies if possible.

The PS1 Ghost in the Shell game? If so, that's pretty cool that you found two copies!

I traded Killer is Dead, Nier I had two copies, was saving this copy to trade , and PS2 Capcom vs SNK2 straight up for the limited edition of Trails of Cold Steel on the PS3. I imagine Capcom vs SNK 2 made up the bulk of the value, but I just don't like the PS2 version.

I've been playing the Mad Max game I got on a Steam sale a couple of weeks ago, its a pretty good game. It's rather chorish and tedious with its side missions to upgrade your vehicle, but doing the main story is pretty good, something that would be as a Mad Max movie or comic story.

Been playing Until Dawn. Really great cinematic-style horror game. Fans of both horror movies and games like Heavy Rain or any title from the Telltale series should find much to enjoy here.

I'm also replaying Metal Gear Rising. I wasn't too fond of the game when I first played it a couple years ago, but my opinion has radically changed. Now, knowing what to expect, I'm having a blast. The cutting/slicing gameplay mechanic is phenomenal.

Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon.

It had been a while since I've played a Pokémon Dungeon game. Once I reached the first ending, it dawned on me as to why that had been - seriously sad endings. I bawled for a good 10 minutes. I didn't think the first Dungeon game's ending could ever be beat, but nope, SMD came around and changed that.

I like that there is quite a bit of strategy in this game. It's not just "Charmander used Flamethrower!" and poof - the enemy is gone. Enemies regularly return whatever you throw at them with quite a vengeance, which makes most of the items you can pick up during gameplay more or less useless.

Other than me playing the wastelands of Mad Max, I decided to try Metal Gear Online through my Metal Gear Solid V game. Its about what I expected, I suck and everyone is better than me. I cannot shoot as fast as the other guy, and it just makes me act like an over competitive 13 year old loser. However, I have a female character with blonde hair, aviator shades, and a black one piece stealth suit with some cleavage showing. I feel like I am controlling a female assassin from an episode of Space Adventure Cobra, and I am perfectly fine with that.

I just bought Kill Zone3 and Skyrim. Once I get the homestead organized I intend to play them. I am off work on sick leave for another month and I need to have something to do.Occupy my time I can only read so much scripture, play so much cello, and read so many self help books before I throw in the towel. One or two hours of productive hobbies or self improvement and I call it quits for the rest of the day; and that is on a good day. I got to try something that will at least keep me up the rest of the day. I did not even leave the apartment yesterday. I only left today because I am a server at church and was obligated to show up. My life was a Bermuda Triangle of work, church, and home. Now it is just home and church. I hope those games keep me interested.

I've been playing Dragon Ball Xenoverse. It starts out fun and the 'create your own character' aspect is interesting, but the gameplay quickly becomes monotonous. Even online play can get tiresome. You really need to grind in order to level up your character to beat the main campaign and side quests and, at times, this can become both repetitive and time consuming. I understand the need for some level grinding (even though it's my most disliked aspect of gaming in general), but the difficulty spikes are huge, requiring hours of level increasing to continue.

The game also has numerous levels where you need to prevent an A.I. controlled teammate from being KO'd. This is the equivalent of an escort mission, and, unfortunately, there are numerous levels like this in the game--and the A.I. is just awful.

It's not a terrible game and I appreciate the developer's attempt at crafting a "new" story instead of just rehashing the same old DBZ events yet again. However, I still much prefer prior Dragon Ball games, like the Tenkaichi titles or even Raging Blast. I felt those earlier games were a better representation of the source material, whereas Xenoverse strives to be more like a very limited MMO.

I'm playing it on the PS4, but I know it's also available on the PS3. I heard that the game's near identical on both consoles too, so you won't be missing out on any extra "next-gen" features. (Honestly, I regret not buying it on the PS3, as I find myself more partial to that console.)

Currently playing Destiny, which is a blast. Very Borderlands like. I play mostly on my XB1. The controller on the PS4 is uncomfortable to me and fatigues my hands. No such thing happens on the XB1. Might try Dragon Age Inquisition next. Heard good things about it and bought it at a discount along with all its DLCs. Winter is still here (got 12" of snow in the past 24 hours) so it's good that I have something to while away a few hours on...
