Oh, but there was that live-action movie! I wouldn't go near that movie unless there was a Rifftrax for it. It should've been a CG-animated movie, but then again, ugh. I wouldn't want that. The reason being is that while the video games are great and are animated fine, the rendered CG cutscenes in the games are pretty terrible and look even worse than the actual in-game graphics do. I'm only going by my memories of the stiff-looking CG characters in the FMV from DOA 3 and that dumb volleyball game. If they ever improved after then, I wouldn't know. I believe those FMV characters were done by a totally different team as the ones who created the characters for the actual gameplay. Pretty terrible. On top of that, I'm afraid that it would be completely terrible story-wise, such as the Tekken CG animated movie and such. An actual anime, on the other hand, might look better, but I still have doubts that the game would properly translate into a show that would make fans happy.

I guess it must be difficult to make an anime based off of a fighting game. The Street Fighter movie and TV show seemed to pull it off, at least.

Ha, well now I must admit my secret shame! I know it wasn't well received, but that DOA film is a guilty pleasure. Fun, mindless fight scenes and there were a lot of references to the games throughout. As far as live-action films based on video games, I dare say it might have been one of more enjoyable ones -- but I know that's certainly not saying much.

The CGI cutscenes in Dead or Alive did drastically improve with the latest game, DOA5. But, at this point, the story is such a convoluted mess...and it doesn't help that Team Ninja is nickel and diming fans with tons overpriced downloadable content. I'm not paying $5 to see a single character fighting in a bikini.

Being that DOA is one of my favorite fighting titles I would jump at a chance to see any anime series or CGI film that got released, but I'd have to agree -- it would probably be a disappointment. I have yet to see that Tekken CGI film, but I keep hearing terrible things. I however did see the first 30 minutes of the live-action King of Fighters film and I think I lost my eyesight for the better part of the evening...perhaps from a self-inclifcted wound. It brought back memories of the dreaded American Darkstalkers cartoon from the 90s.

My only exposure to the DOA and KOF movies and the Tekken CG anime is from the SpoonyExperiment.com reviews of those.

Oh gosh, this sort of thing pisses me off so much that a full rant deserves its own topic. In 10 years after those servers are decommissioned, that DLC will be lost forever because companies want to nickle & dime their players to death.
