According to IMDB, the film cost close to $200 million USD and only took in just over $100 Million domestic gross (not factoring in home video, streaming, download, pay-per-view or TV syndication sales) which marks it as a crashing failure. And yet it did well over $300 million USD from the rest of the world, and again not factoring in all those other extra sales. That makes it worth making another movie, I am going to expect they'll demand the budget be kept down.
I'm hoping that a more modest budget won't lend to cheaper looking special effects. The first movie looked pretty great, I'd hate to see it suffer too much. ;__;
