I remember for the longest time, people wanted to get Blade Runner on LD because in the '90s, only the director's cut was commercially available and the VHS were OOP. I didn't care much myself because I prefered the DC, but to each his own. Another one I can think of is Terminator 2. I had a friend say that he didn't like the version available on DVD because it includes the deleted scene of the Kyle Reese dream sequence, and he preferred the original theatrical. And the Aliens DC on LD was like the holy grail! It wasn't available on VHS, and that LD really held its value for quite a long time. I'm told that the Lion King LD is still much sought-after because apparently Disney made some changes to the DVD version. I cannot elaborate though.

I own my ultimate Star Wars LD box set.

Actually, the DC Terminator 2 DVD did include the original theatrical cut. It was unlockable as an easter egg. I think it was a simple matter of highlighting something in the main menu and then pressing one of the directional buttons on the remote.

Really? That is pretty F'ing lame. There should be no reason for crap like that. How was my friend supposed to know that? It should be selectable from the main menu.

Those were the days when Easter Eggs in DVDs were A Thing. Needless to say, it didn't last.

Terminator was the first BD I ever bought, not having known at the time about the color tone alteration. It was a huge disappointment. I heard French Connection also had a recolored transfer, but haven't seen what it looks like. One of my biggest disappointments regarding both the DVD and BD format was with Excalibur. The picture quality on both isn't bad, but the flat and muddled audio mix is atrocious. The LD sound was slightly better, but still could have used work. If there's one movie that I wished received some meticulous and comprehensive audio remastering, it would be that film.

I still have my Aliens Special Edition LD box set with the Director's Cut. For me, James Cameron's director's cut is the only way to watch the film. Unfortunately, the Aliens LD discs suffer from some laser rot, but it came with some fantastic special features, especially back in the '90s when such things were far from commonplace. The discs were also in CAV format, which looked great, but meant you were turning over/swapping the disc every 30 minutes.

I stopped by my local Hard Off yesterday. I don't go there as often as people may think, since usually there isn't much exciting there to see. I went through their LDs and saw Macross Plus, Macross II, Locke the Superman, Totoro, Patlabor, and a few other titles. If anyone has any requests, let me know.

You passed on them because there Slayers?

I am someone that has been gathering up a small Laserdisc collection the past couple of years, between anime and whatever movies I can get. I was able to recently snag the LD box of the Japanses Mad Max films from Tim Eldred, so I will get around to watching them eventually. I also got some version of THX 1138 that is supposed to be the true version of that film, and a friend of mine just handed that to me when he got it at a goodwill whenever ago. I just know half my Star Trek film collection is on LD and the other on DVD, same with some of the Bond films I have also. I did get Toru Furuya to sign my Gundam 3 movie on LD, but that was through the assistence of Pokemon TV producer Toshifumi Yoshida, and I owe that man big time.

I'd have to go to Hard off to find out which ones they have and for how much. IIRC, they were only 100 yen each. I wouldn't ask much for them, maybe 2 or so each. But I'll warn you that these things are heavy, and shipping these to you might cost quite a bit if you want me to buy 3 or more. I can maybe weigh several of my own LDs to get an idea as to the shipping costs.

Shipping a few discs together won't be super expensive - four to five disks bundled are probably a couple pounds about 1 kg - and might be an extra five or ten bucks to ship from Japan at slow rates. Box sets are what kill you - my Maison Ikkoku boxset that I had shipped from Japan was 200 in total 50 for the set, 150 for shipping , thanks to it being 10 kg.

I'll have to find a box to fit LDs in, put a few in to test the weight, and get back to you. I've found that in some cases with heavier items, EMS can actually be cheaper than regular sending. I don't know if any EMS envelopes will fit LDs, however.

Seeing as how my plans for a family trip to Yokohama this weekend were killed by my wife just because it wasn't her idea, I may have some time to check out Hard Off and take note of which LDs they have of the titles you mentioned.

My thing really are OVA's that were never relased in the states. I wouldn't mind owning anime that has motorcycles in it like Bari Bari Densetsu and the other one title escapes me at the moment, but it involves a female biker chick, but thats naming like maybe 4 titles there lol . Bobby's Girl would be pretty sweet to own also, but im not sure how hard to find that is. I have the last Giang Gorg on laserdisc, so owning the first 3 would complete that.

I mean unless you go through with you camera phone and just take pictures of everything you see without getting kicked out that would help also lol. But if it is going to get you in trouble then dont worry. I appreciate it, thank you man.

Oh wow! Bari Bari Densetsu. I knew it was a PC Engine game, but I wasn't aware of an OVA. That's neat.

I've known of the manga because the guy who did Initial D did that as his first one back in the 80's. I am not sure how much of the OVA sums up the manga series, but from what I saw of the fansubs I enjoyed it.
