I never did see the Variable Geo anime. I have the Variable Geo games for the PC Engine, Super Famicom, and Sega Saturn. I understand that the anime is a bit on the hentai side. The Saturn game hints at it a bit. I think the losers to the fights are forced to humiliate themselves by stripping or something? It's an all-female, Street Fighter II clone fighting game. Gameplay is better than a similar all-female fighting game series called Pretty Fighter.
For some reason when I first saw "Variable Geo" written in your post, I thought of Voltage Fighter Gowkaizer instead. That was a Neo Geo fighting game turned into an anime. Oh man, that anime was terrible. The incestuous brother and sister in the show is what really made it uncomfortable to watch.

Re: What are you Watching?
I'm definitely intrigued. It's fairly inexpensive for the whole series; once I get a lull in my backlog I'll have to order a copy of Shiki.yusaku wrote: I started really enjoying the story until the seventh or eighth episode. I am sure the other three discs will be fine watching. if you are patient enough to get through the first six episodes you will be rewarded.
I agree, it was very much worth $1! Turns out that I really enjoyed it. I liked the art style and was surprised at how slick the animation turned out to be. I had no idea it came from a video game until I read your post. I'll have to see if someone posted some clips of the game on Youtube.ryoran wrote:Variable Geo is based on a fighting game series with all-female characters, so don't expect too much from it!I enjoyed it for what it was though, but the fighting games are hella fun! Definitely worth $1, I used to own it on VHS myself.
While it doesn't escalate into outright hentai, Variable Geo does feel like it could easily go in that direction. The losing fighter is always forced to strip, and everyone's clothing has that trademark 'one-touch-and-its-shredded' feature. But, aside from a few other fetish-inspired scenes, doesn't go too far. Though I just read that there's another one called "Variable Geo Neo"... and based on some reviews it looks like that one lands more closely in the hentai category.greg wrote:I understand that the anime is a bit on the hentai side. I've never heard of Voltage Fighter Gowkaizer, but based on your comments I think that's one I'll safely pass on, even if I spotted it for $1!

Re: What are you Watching?
Finally finished Saint Seiya Omega. A lot of newer anime fans like this series while the old school fans love the old series. As a whole, you really don't need to see the original series though it does help. Compared to the original manga, Omega does have a very happy ending. I just think the battle with the Pallasites story arc dragged on longer than it should have. But the build up to the main villain of that story was very worth it and emotional.
Also watched episode 5 of Saint Seiya Soul of Gold. It is finally picking up. To me, this is a series I should have binge watched once it had concluded. Watching it bi-weekly just feels so slow and it is a sequel to a part of the series that was really a filler. I just want Aiolos, the original Sagittarius Gold Saint to show up now. But I am glad they are trying to give the gold saints some sort of character development.
Episode 23 of Sailor Moon Crystal. Finally got to Black Lady. Just a few more episodes left of this story arc. It is great it is confirmed that the series is now going to continue.
Episode 29 of Macross 7. Totally dig this series even if I haven't seen it in 20 years.
Episode 9 of Kyoukai no Rinne. It does feel rather episodic. I have not read the manga as of yet. I just feel compared to Takahashi's other works, the humor does rely a bit more on deadpan and how Rinne is poor.
And episode episode 46 of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Stardust Crusaders (well, technically episode 72 if you want to count the first season which covers the first two story arcs from the manga). Next week, THE BIGGEST FIGHT EVER IS GOING TO GO DOWN!!!!!

Re: What are you Watching?
Sadly, it looks like AnimeClassicReviews got all their old anime OVAs taken down. I was trying to get some of them saved so I could watch them later, guess I was too late. Anyone know how to get ahold of him? I would love to get the shows he has.
Gowkaizer is by Masami Obari, of Fatal Fury and mecha fame. If you like those, you might like the show. I haven't personally seen it yet though.
Variable Geo started out as a PC98 game, and it's character designer, Takahiro Kimura, is known for doing a lot of hentai work, such as the old Sogna/Viper games and such. So many of the games are considered eroge.Char Aznable wrote:While it doesn't escalate into outright hentai, Variable Geo does feel like it could easily go in that direction. I actually wanted to ask ACR if he could upload his stuff onto a file sharing site like Mega.nz because Youtube isn't the best quality if you're watching it on a bigger screen or monitor. I saved a few of his stuff but I definitely would upgrade it if I could get some of his anime at a higher resolution and bitrate.
Anyway, been watching Heidi lately, and Garden of Sinners. Never understood why Heidi aired almost everywhere in the world except North America. It's a perfect children's cartoon--educational without being preachy or soft peddled. Gritty enough to not insult your intelligence.
Maybe it wasn't toyetic enough for capitalist US television.

Well, that sucks. I'm not surprised, though. If you keep uploading anime onto YT, eventually some of the anime studios will flag the videos for copyright infringement. If you want to get ahold of him, you may have some remote luck by sending him a message on Anime Nation. His username is Area88 there.ryoran wrote:Sadly, it looks like AnimeClassicReviews got all their old anime OVAs taken down.

I should have figured they would have. French CBC actually aired the '78 Captain Harlock a few years back_D_ wrote:Heidi aired in French on Quebec TV stations...llj wrote:I actually wanted to ask ACR if he could upload his stuff onto a file sharing site like Mega.nz because Youtube isn't the best quality if you're watching it on a bigger screen or monitor. Re: What are you Watching?
The weather here is still nice and cool while the rainy season continues. However, since it is getting warmer as summer approaches, my desire to watch anime is increasing. I've persuaded my daughter for the past two nights to watch GS Mikami instead of stupid Crayon Shin-chan. She likes ghosts and zombies and such, so she's finally getting back into the mood to watch that show. I demanded we watch it on Father's Day, and so now she's not objecting to watching it more. Whew!
I'm sad to see the Anime Classics Reviews YT channel disappear. I wanted to watch High Speed Jecy on there, and continue Dream Hunter Rem. Oh well...
