I been gone for a little bit now, mainly due to putting this video together. I hope you guys will give it a try and enjoy it. It's a in-depth look into the theological symbolism of Angel's Egg as well as how this symbolism relates to Mamoru Oshii (Director of Ghost in the Shell).

Re: Analysis of Mamoru Oshii's Angel's Egg
Funny, I too have an opinion on Angel's Egg:

The thing is, after reading Brian Ruh book on Oshii, I have a much better grasp and appreciation for Angel's Egg than I did before. I still don't understand everything about Angel's Egg, but I don't cut down on it as I used too. But lets get real, the only person to get Angel's Egg is Mamoru Oshii.

I might've come across the book you've mentioned actually. It's called the Stray Dog of Anime, right? I've skimmed a chapter or two, its a pretty neat read.

Even without knowing any actual meanings, I still like Angel's Egg. It's a trip and it looks gorgeous.

I read that book a year or so later because I needed it for research about my presentation on Oshii for my Contemporary Art Class in university. After reading the chapter (shoot most of the book) Ruh painted and connected some very loose wires when it came to Oshii narratives in his stories, which although I don't fully agree with most of it, it does greatly help form my opinion or agree with Ruh academic one.scriptweaver wrote:I might've come across the book you've mentioned actually. You know, bringing it up is making me wanna go back and take a more thorough read of the book. It's been quite a while since I came across it. I'm sure you can get it off amazon or something.
It'd be really neat if there was a novel like that on Hedeaki Anno or Yasuyuki Ueda (Yasuyuki made Serial Experiments: Lain).

Thanks for sharing your video Scriptweaver!
I really enjoy Brain Ruh's book, I had him on my podcast once to talk about Mamoru Oshii and it was clear to me he had very extensive knowledge on his work. You can find the first printing of his book easily on Amazon: http://amzn.to/2kUja9a
Recently he did a revised version, tho, which seems cheapest when you buy directly from his publisher: http://www.palgrave.com/us/book/9781137355676
I heartily recommend either! Their both have lots of great information.
