The anime has its own charms & I remember really liking it but admittedly it's been YEARS since I last watched it lol. I'd say you could always try the anime & if you enjoy it maybe try the manga?
Thanks for the recommendation! But have you covered Kare Kano on your podcast? Lately I have been going through the show's archive to find old series to watch--I just have finished Crystania by the way.

Oh thanks! I haven't done one on Kare Kano yet but I've been thinking about it. I'd need to rewatch it...

The more I watch Aura Battle Dunbine, the more it's just a reskined '79 Gundam show (which makes sense since Tomino did Dunbine before Zeta). It's actually been pretty good so far, and it seems pretty watered down from what Tomino was later becoming capable of doing (then again, he's full Tomino when its Gundam properties, not stuff he likes doing). Neal is a Bright Noah substitute, there's mommy issues with the main character, and we have our blonde haired kinda antagonist fighting against Sho. I started to notice this about somewhere in the teen episodes of the series when it kinda clicked for me.

What format are you watching it in?

I don't have a copy of that one, so if it showed up streaming somewhere that would be cool.

It was really cheap on an Amazon sale back in November, I think I got the whole series for under 25 bucks.

Started watching the new Dororo adaptation. I like what I've seen so far; it gives a fresh coat of modern paint to bring the older aesthetic to be more in line with modern sensibilities. That being said, the story of the original work is not too unlike what you could find in modern Shonen Jump fighting fare. Being an action-oriented work, Dororo struck me for some time as something that would suit a modern adaptation. If I'm being entirely honest, I have a hard time maintaining my attention sometimes for the low budget monochrome animation of some 60s shows, especially with fighting/action series.

I've watched the original 60s anime adaptation and read the original manga prior to the new series' announcement and I'm curious to see how this new adaptation will end. The old anime adaptation and original manga had different endings (without saying much, the former was more conclusive).
