Norah Jones’ “I’m Alive” music video released in Japan is actually an official collaboration with the Maison Ikkoku manga! In an article about it on Natalie, it’s explained that the idea came from the theme of Jones’ song being “a woman living strongly & happily, even through hardships”, and that Kyoko Otonashi was the perfect character to represent that. The video is supposed to be through Kyoko’s point of view, living her life at Ikkoku and slowly opening her heart after experiencing so much sadness. Rumiko Takahashi herself says it was an honor to revisit these characters, and to collab with Jones on such a project.

While the manga panels used in the video are in Japanese, it is a little spoilery, so if you’ve never read the manga, consider that a warning!
