Greetings and Salutations

Post by George W »

George here - I've been knocking around Anime and Manga since the early 1980s.

I used to buy my Anime tapes from a place in Florida called Wvern's Web (might have mis-spelled that). This was before there were translations available. I still remember going to WindyCon in Chicago, and meeting the late Kim Yates, who was John Ostrander's (writer, Grimjack, First Comics) girlfriend, and watching her translate Vampire Hunter D as it played on the big screen - it was mesmerizing.

I did some panel discussions over the years, including one at CactusCon in Phoenix, Arizona. It was a NASFIC (North American Science Fiction Interim Convention) since the Worldcon was out of the US that year. I think that was 1988, and they had a well-translated version of Laputa playing at a movie theater across the street. It was simply indescribable seeing it on the big screen - if you ever have the opportunity, take it.

I have a lot of VHS tapes, and a number of DVD collections. I did (sorry) buy the remastered Robotech Collection (used) on DVD. While it mangled Macross, Mosepeda and Southern Cross into the Robotech Saga, the animation and scripting were good, and it's nice to see it without all the transmission garbage and fade.

My SysOp days are over - I'm just here to have fun and contribute.

Best wishes.

Thanks. It was an enjoyable part of life, that's for certain. I made many lifelong friends, some of which are on here.
