"Where's the meeting this week?"

The roughly mid-90's and earlier (generally pre-Toonami, pre-anime boom) era of anime & manga fandom: early cons, clubs, tape trading, Nth Generation VHS fansubs, old magazines & fanzines, fandubs, ancient merchandise, rec.arts.anime, and more!

How important to you guys that the place you met had a TV? I guess that no one would want to carry a 25-inch CRT back and forth, right? Though it seemed like at the time there were some models marketed as "luggable"?

A meeting place with a TV was definitely a plus, and something we'd want to hold on to. There were a lot of meetings at places without televisions, which meant somebody (usually me) had to load a "big" CRT (usually a 24") television into the back of his car and drive it across town.

Occasionally we'd split the RF signal and have one TV in the front of the room and another one halfway back, so everybody got a decent look. We'd do this in convention video rooms, as well.
