Just heard the news this morning about Jim passing. Jim has been known as the guy who created the first AMV and has been doing AMV's since the 1980's. He was featured in a recent documentary called Synced Together by a few amv editors I know and was on an episode of the Anime World Order podcast last year (found here: https://www.awopodcast.com/2022/02/anim ... t-amv.html)
The thing is I was just talking to Jim on Discord a couple of weeks ago in trying to help him get one of his videos as a direct download on animemusicvideos.org. I didn't hear from him thinking "hey he got busy or forgot, ill catch up with him at some point." Then this morning I found out the news so im a bit torn over his passing. Would've been someone I would've loved to meet in person at some point. Jim also has a Youtube channel that I went ahead and got all his content incase his page ever gets taken down, which can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/@ultragoji3358
I actually did a Heavy Metal themed AMV panel at this most recent Anime Weekend Atlanta where I had his Project A-ko/Loudness video playing and gave him a shoutout there and urged peopel to check this guy out. Weither that was sucessful or not, im not sure.
RIP Jim Kaposzatas

I didn't know Jim and unfortunately never got a chance to meet him. I remember the first AMV I ever saw, a various mecha compilation set to The Transformers The Movie theme. It was something that, even as someone who was a fan for a few years at that point, was nothing I'd heard about, or considered, at all. And to think, my first anime con and I just wander into the right room at the right time.
And the fact that there was even a room running that contest was ultimately, thanks to Jim, I'm gonna give that AWO episode a listen again.

RIP to a fandom legend. Given they're such a staple, it's hard to imagine what both the convention and online scene would look like without AMVs, and the various offshoots that were influenced by them.
Jim Kaposzatas' videos truly are important pieces of Western Anime fandom history. Since you downloaded the videos in case his channel goes down, DKop, would you consider uploading them to archive.org?

Walter Amos, posting as "Rheinhard" on the ANN Forums here wrote up some more good info about Jim. I remembered from the AWO interview that Jim did commercial video editing and production but I didn't know he held rotations of the "reaper beeper". ANN has a full obituary here.

Thank you kindly! Hopefully, more eyes will be drawn to Jim's work. Several large online outlets like ANN and Kotaku are covering his story.DKop wrote: ↑Wed Feb 08, 2023 4:33 am Ask and you shall recieve, here you go, spread it around!
