Non-annoying AMVs

Post by greg »

How about a topic for cool AMVs for retro anime shows? None of this Bleach/Narutard crap with Linkin Park music.

here's one for KOR:

I am confident enough in my sexuality to say that the Pet Shop Boys are freaking cool.

That's a great video! I love Honneamise, too. it's a shame that it flopped in Japan, because it is a truly intelligent movie.

The Honneamise soundtrack by Ryuichi Sakamoto was brilliant, too. My wife has the soundtrack to Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence that he did. Very beautiful music. I've never seen the movie, but I know the music well. Sakamoto also stars in the movie, as does Beat Takeshi and David Bowie, FTW. All I know is that it involves a Japanese POW camp. (The fascist fringe in Japan insists that the POWs were treated well, and that the Bataan Death March was just a relaxing hike where they got to go swimming a lot. Frightening.) Sakamoto also did the soundtrack to The Last Emperor with David Byrne of Talking Heads fame, but I prefer his electronic synth music style more than his orchestral stuff.

One of the first AMVs I ever saw was this Evangelion one in 98: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HkPj1zyJOA

I loved it because not only was the song fitting, but the lip-synching on it was amazing...esp. considering that this was made with VHS equipment back in the 90s! The picture isn't the best, but I think it still holds up.

This is more of a parody than an AMV, but I did see it during an AMV contest in 99: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLJt3_q3qTc I was so excited when I found it on Youtube a few years ago because it still makes me laugh. I love it.

I actually made my very first amv recently, after YEARS of wanting to try--I think it turned out pretty well, if you want to give it a shot...it's made with the old Armitage III oavs from the 90s: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... p?v=190729 (I have it on Youtube as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gScsWYNhp5A but the picture quality is actually better on AMV's preview steam, lol.) I figured I'd share because the kiddos on AMV.org don't seem interested in it since it's from an "old" anime...maybe you guys will appreciate it a little more. ;3

Thanks! I really want to try to do more amvs to older anime, if I can. I've had so many ideas over the years, now I can actually try them! XD

That Utena one is pretty good, but I think one of my favorites of the Utena movie would be this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RdLhviim4gY Saw it at Sakura-con 01 or 02, if I recall. I love the overall feel of it.

My favorite Utena TV series amv will ALWAYS be this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HaFhUvL_C1s it is a masterpiece of awesome. XD

Wow the Utena movie set to Bjork was REALLY good. Kinda gave me chills. Haha. Reminds me I need to finish Utena also.
