I've bumped into a fair number of fans who, as time went on, cleaned out portions of their collections that they later wished they hadn't.
I tossed out a bunch of tapes...
Drat!
What about you?

Oh, gosh, I could probably list a million things I wish I hadn't gotten rid of...
-My old VHS tapes (some titles I got rid of never got a DVD release, like Leda: The Fantastic Adventure of Yohko)
-Most of my old single-chapter manga comics (back when they released them as monthlies like American comics. I still have some, but I used to have BOXES of them!)
-My old early-90s Japanese Newtype mags ;3;
-my old Sailor Moon & Ranma 1/2 posters (I know they were bootlegs but dammit they were cute!)

Re: Anime/Manga stuff you tossed out, but now wish you hadn'
I'm a bit of a hoarder, especially with anything remotely related to anime stuff I collected, so I didn't toss out, donate, or sell much. Though I do have some regrets because of financial troubles or moving...
- My VHS and DVD collection I got rid of about 5 years ago. Basically my watching collection from the beginning part of my love for anime to when I got a job and bought my first DVDs. I got rid of alot of stuff I'm going back to collect. Though the bright side is many if not all are still findable and available in boxsets.
- "bootleg" VHS tapes of anime never released on DVD. And the VHS are hard to find for a good price.
- FFIX Zidane plush, the first thing I ever bought at my first anime convention, I had to sell due to hardship.
- Ranma 1/2 manga graphic novels, only had a few volumes

I gave away a lot of stuff over the years to promote clubs and conventions. I never really missed it. I'm considering putting up shelving in my house to showcase the toys I collected and get them off the floor. I'd like to do the same with the magazines and tapes but I'd run out of wall space, so storing them in a back room is the best I can do for now...

The first three or four years of AWA, the pre-reg numbers were low enough that we'd stuff the packets ourselves, and a LOT of my smaller posters, magazine inserts, comics, promo materials, and other unwanted stuff went into the packets.
I have deposited unwanted fanzines on the 'free' tables at conventions many a time. I still wind up with unwanted anime-related promotional items from time to time, but they usually get to a convention free table before the year is out.

I have regrets sometimes of selling my LD's...but keep an eye out on the Sell Thread, I'm about to sell a lot of VHS and older manga comic books (not graphic novels but when each chapter was sold as comic books from Viz and other companies)

Yes, I did the same thing. I call it "The Great Jump to DVD Fiasco"kndy wrote:I have regrets sometimes of selling my LD's...but keep an eye out on the Sell Thread, I'm about to sell a lot of VHS and older manga comic books (not graphic novels but when each chapter was sold as comic books from Viz and other companies)
You really can't beat the beautiful artwork laserdiscs have. I too have been re-purchasing some laserdiscs and also LP's.
Sometimes you can find these frames on sale if you go to michaels art supply, And Laserdiscs/LP look great framed.

I wish I hadn't sold all my Ranma 1/2 manga to Bookmans (a used books and media chain) before I moved to Japan. I had at least 2/3rds of the series, but I had to make some painful decisions. I also had kept the boxes for all my anime figures, but I had to toss out the boxes to so many of them to maximize space when shipping them to Japan. I also sold several of the figures to Bookmans, and they probably paid me for more than I originally bought them for in Japan. The move was painful, but it forced me to really analyze what I truly wanted and what was just clutter.

Re: Anime/Manga stuff you tossed out, but now wish you hadn'
While I was up in WA, I managed to go through a few boxes of old stuff of mine my mom had tried to keep that accidentally got put in her tool shed instead of their storage space in the garage. I was sad to see that a few old issues of Animerica I had in there got water damaged, so I had to toss them, along with some old issues of Protoculture Addicts, Animerica Extra, and my old Baka-con/Sakura-con booklets. :/ I did manage to find some old VHS tapes that magically stayed dry & safe, though, and a couple of old magazines. So not a total loss, at least!
