Making a thread about stuff that you can only see nowadays on old TV recordings.
Of course, I've been focusing on the audio issues with Toei's releases (TV recordings are now the only way to watch many of their TV series in high quality audio)
Speaking of Toei's anime, my buddy has some stuff from Dragonball Z's first run up on his YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/theworlddbz . For example, next episode previews not on any home releases: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uImwvxaB ... 5g&index=4 . Broadcast-only versions of openings: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x08tjv9F ... g&index=28
Broadcast-Only Footage
Re: Broadcast-Only Footage
The World of Leiji Matsumoto special. Broadcast only once in 1980. I gave a first generation copy transferred to DVD-R to Tim Eldred, so it may turn up on his site eventually. That was the one that had the animated and live action Matsumoto interview done with his female characters, Meiteru, Emeraldus, Yuki Mori, Starsha and Saasha. It's unique as the characters were from different companies, being Toei and Office Academy. Try and find a good quality copy after 30 years though...
Also had Leiji Matsumoto's history of SF manga series. I don't think that footage is available anywhere either. I've never seen either show on Youtube...

Out of all your anime tapes, are those your prized recordings?
Speaking of Tim Eldred, he's another person I've been meaning to invite over here...

Re: Broadcast-Only Footage
For anime, yes, other than convention footage. I have lots of other stuff, like old TV shows that haven't seen the light of day in 20 years or more. It's mostly unavailable online and won't be available anytime soon. Just no will to cap it and make it available anymore.AnimeSennin wrote:Out of all your anime tapes, are those your prized recordings?

Cool stuff. Wish I had a time machine; I'd go back to the early days and be recording stuff day and night...
As for the will to be making stuff available, on the one hand, even after all these years, it seems that my will to help out and work for "the good of all fandom" is only getting stronger and stronger as time goes on (hence this site/forum), and as you know there are indeed things on tape that I'm trying to dig up in order to try to get real releases out for all the fans to enjoy, but on the other hand I feel that it's kind of a shame that anything and everything seems to make it out onto the Internet nowadays, instantly available to anyone who can click a mouse and fire up bittorrent. So sue me, but I think there should be at least *some* things out there that don't make it to the general Internet population, which welcomes everything with wide-open arms, and yet rarely gives back. Granted, there have always been more consumers than producers in anime fandom, but at least it took more effort to be a consumer back in the old days. It takes all the fun out of the hunt if everything's instantly available, to. I've asked this question of whether everything should be handed over to the general Internet population or not to a few of my buddies who also collect recordings, and they seem to think similarly, not sure exactly where you stand, _D_. I'm always more than happy to give things out among friends (particularly fellow "aging otaku"), or at least to people who actually do a bit more than just consuming other fan's hard work; I just feel that there should be at least a few things out there that remain sacred, not up for download by anyone and everyone... Plus, too much litigation these days; best to keep most things private, among friends only...

Re: Broadcast-Only Footage
There are lots of private channels available. Getting into them however...
I am able to get lots of oddball old films, obscure TV series, etc. from friends that have an "in", however I'm not much interested in going down that route again. No more time in the day. Just recently came upon a scan site for old US comics. Would take another lifetime to read them again, so I'm only selecting a few titles that interested me when I was a kid back in the 60s to read and enjoy again.
Dunno if you want the stuff I do get along to capping or not. Other than the aforementioned stuff, I've been doing stuff on and off for 10 years. Just pretty quietly. If there is something you are looking for just PM me.
