I think the Alien mythos is best left as a mystery, as well as the Navigator and what happened aboard the "derelict" spacecraft that crash-landed on planet LB-426 prior to the events of the first Alien movie. It's like Star Wars... for many, many years, we all imagined Jedi to be these badass warriors protecting the galaxy, but what we ended up with was a bunch of celibate, child-abducting wussy morons who were all tricked and fell for a total con-artist and his extravagant, barely-believable conspiracy.
I liked at the end of the Honest Trailer for Prometheus when the guy said, "Please, just leave Blade Runner alone!" I think I've lost confidence in Ridley Scott to deliver a decent movie. His reworking of Blade Runner was brilliant and subtle. I now doubt that he can make a Blade Runner tie-in movie and make it work, as he intends to do.

Re: Blade Runner
I'm actually kind of late with watching it, I saw it for the first time about 2 years ago. It's amazing how much anime is influenced by the movie. It was kinda hard to pay attention to the movie with that thought in the back of my mind, so I ended up watching it several times. Which I'm not complaining about because I absolutely love it. I think my favorite things about the movie are Priss, and the music. The music mainly, because you just don't hear anything like it anymore.

Re: Blade Runner
And unfortunately, there has never ever been an official soundtrack released that does justice to Blade Runner. It's like with each release, they're thinking, "They really don't want the actual music from the movie, right? I mean, the music isn't that good, is it?" The first soundtrack from the '80s was actually an orchestral version, the second version from the early '90s had some actual stuff, but it included voiceovers on top of the music (because apparently the music must be real boring or something), and half of the stuff was brand new music not even featured in the movie. They've released a multi-disc sountrack, but that also fails to really deliver all of the music from the movie. Only the bootleg soundtracks get it right.

Re: Blade Runner
Oh! I didn't know that. I had gotten a few of the soundtracks, and while I did still like the music, I didn't like how it just wasn't a straight up soundtrack. Maybe I'll have to find a bootleg one, lol.greg wrote:And unfortunately, there has never ever been an official soundtrack released that does justice to Blade Runner. Re: Blade Runner
Blade Runner has been a favorite for me too! And Ryoran is right, some anime was really heavily influenced by it. The two biggest examples I can think of would be Bubblegum Crisis and Armitage.

May pick up a final cut version at one of the dollar stores in town. It was only $5 on DVD so nothing to lose. The Blu Ray comes with a Spinner Car toy but it's $30. Not going for that version...

Re: Blade Runner
My friend bought it on Bluray and said that it's really not much better picture quality than the standard DVD. I can imagine this must be true for pretty much any older movie. The Final Cut is the perfect version of the movie. Continuity errors are fixed, technical errors are corrected, and a few extra seconds of the incredibly cool street scenes are inserted for fun, too.

Here is a really comprehensive website for Blade Runner fans:
http://bladezone.com/
Still upset I was too late to get tickets to this event, However they only have a 35mm print....
http://www.cinespia.org/calendar
But usually Blade Runner events in LA are quite a thing to see.
When the workprint was found I saw it at the Nuart (Reprisal Theater) and it was somewhat of a circus. I imagine this screening will be full of hipsters, pretensious UCLA/USC film students, & Film Industry/Blu-Ray Producers.
My kind of crowd ^_^

I agree the Final Cut is the best version. Even though there's not much difference in run time, overall it "felt" better paced and moved along at a much better clip.greg wrote:My friend bought it on Bluray and said that it's really not much better picture quality than the standard DVD. As for BD, I find that live action movies in general don't benefit from BD as much as animation does. Don't get me wrong, if I don't yet own a film I want, I'll opt for the BD version 9/10 times but I feel like the linework in 2d animation is night and day when comparing DVD versions to BD.
