kndy, I really like how you arranged and shot these CD's in these photos. They look great. I haven't listened to very much J-Pop, except for random stuff back in the day. I really like the Japanese pressed CD's, they really do a good job of making the package art better.

Yeah, I like the packaging too...but I have to buy most of them used these days. Back then, I would mind paying the $20-$30, but now I think its ridiculous to pay so much for an album or single. Or maybe I have become too fiscally conservative as I get older...lol..

What I'm listening today...

AKB48 - Aitakatta

Ryosuke Miki - Onaji Keshiki wo Mitsumeta Hi +4

Hey kndy, you are obviously knowledgeable with J-music, do you have any recommendations that might sound similar to early m-flo? Or know of some good hip-hop?

Hi Ryoran, early m-flo....that's a tough question. I don't think I've seen anyone like m-flo, if anything more groups incorporating vocal/hip hop element such as AAA but they are more pop band. But really m-flo is in its own class and their collaborations are just awesome!

With that being said, I prefer early m-flo with Lisa and their m-flo Love years. As for good hip hop, this is subjective for those who want true Japanese hip hop and those who want commercial Japanese hip hop. But do you like the commercial pop based influence hip hop? There have been few that have anime tie-ins like Home Made Kazoku, FLOW, nobody knows+ to popular but yet respected RHYMESTER, Scha Dara Parr, Buddha Brand and many others.

I've listened to ALL of m-flo up to the current works, which sadly I didn't like as much, so from early to the Loves works is what I like from them.

As far as any other hip hop I've listened to, I do like Home Made Kazoku, FLOW, Misia, RHYMESTER, Crystal Kay, Koda Kumi, to name a few. I've never heard of Scha Dara Parr and Buddha Brand, so I might give them a try. I've been out of J-pop for a while (listening to K-pop mostly) so I need some new recommendations, but I'm not really into young girl groups or anything with all ballads. I started listening to J-pop in the 90's so I kinda like anything similar to Utada or m-flo, Monkey Majik, stuff like that.

You might like m-flo's newest albums "Neven" and "Works V". m-flo's music has changed quite a bit and I could tell Taku has been listening to a lot of Skrillex lately...lol. SDP and Buddha Brand are looked at how people look at Run DMC in America...people look at them as originators of building Japanese hip hop but today, too much focus is on the commercial hip hop.

Utada, m-flo and Monkey Majik are cool!
