I've never gone (a little too far away for me), but a friend of mine pointed out that Animazement's got some cool old-school-friendly guests this year:
Ryuusei Nakao (voice actor for series like Dragonball, Crying Freeman, Touch, Golgo 13, etc)
Hiroshi Nagahama (director, writer, designer who worked on stuff like Yawara, "Stink Bomb" in Memories, Utena, etc)
Toshio Furukawa (voice actor in series like Dragonball, Fist of the North Star, Urusei Yatsura, Patlabor, etc)
Masako Nozawa (can't get more old-school than the voice of Tetsuro! XD She's in tons of stuff, including Dragonball of course, Astro Boy, GeGeGe no Kitaro, Doraemon, and like a million other things...)
Yuko Minaguchi (voice actress in Yawara, Dragonball, Sailor Moon, etc)
Keiko Han (voice actress in Galaxy Express, Gundam, Yamato, Sailor Moon, etc)
Haruhiko Mikimoto (artist and character designer for Gunbuster, Macross, Megazone 23, etc)
Man, if I had the funds, I'd totally go just to get autographs alone!! That is a really stellar guest line up.

Re: Animazement 2013
I don't know what their secret is but they always get great Japanese industry guests. If I still lived in Atlanta, I would go to this convention just for Mikimoto. I think the last AZ I attended was 2000 or 2001, but I always had a good time there.
Re: Animazement 2013
I've long maintained that if I don't count the convention I help run (and if I'm being honest with myself, even if I do) then the single best ANIME convention in the country is Animazement (Anime Expo is the only other one in contention IMO, but considering it's size I have to give the nod to Animazement). I haven't been to it in over a decade, but it is the ONLY anime convention not in my home state that I've been to multiple times. The first time I went, they had: Chiho Saito, Kia Asamiya, Yuu Watase and Kunihiko Ikuhara ALL AT THE SAME CON.

Re: Animazement 2013
I've always been under the impression that it was a really awesome convention, from what I'd heard from friends that attended regularly. They seem to consistently have great guests instead of "whoever's popular right now" like some conventions tend to do. Not to say it's horrible to get guests who are involved with whatever's popular, seeing as lots of vets of the industry end up working on new stuff all the time, obviously! It's just nice to see a convention still thinking about the fans who've been around long enough to appreciate the full body of work these people have done.
