I like watching really small little OAVs like this, as long as they are entertaining, which it was. The late Chieko Honda played the main character, Ruu. :,c I liked the little sci-fi cameos ala Urusei Yatsura in the beginning. I'd love to read the manga but I can't find it anywhere.
<watches> That was really cute OAV. Gotta find the manga too.

Looks like more problems in the industry over there:

Thanks for posting that Ryoran! I had been wanting to see that for a while. Totally the type of anime I love: short, sweet, and well animated.

We're currently on DVD 3 of Yamato 2199. This show is very cool. It's serious space opera, with anime characters who seem like they could be real people, incredible visuals, great action, and stays faithful to the original series. With the scene of the fighters launching from the catapaults in episode 5, I was having a nerdgasm. So incredibly cool!

Hmm...maybe this can be its own topic. I can't see this as being a negative, but let's discuss in another topic.

Oh, if you're having nerdgasms over that, just...um... yeah. It gets better. Wear a diaper. :)

We finished DVD 3 of Yamato 2199.

Also today, while it's not anime, we watched Sophia Coppola's Marie Antoinette, since it's related to Rose of Versailles. My wife is usually bored with history, especially when I talk about it, so I couldn't get her interested in this movie when I first saw it. But now that she's interested in the anime, I got her interested in watching this film. The movie skips the obvious and ends with the king and queen fleeing Versailles. My wife could identify the characters from the anime in this film, and I explained some of the cultural issues that can be seen in the movie.

Also of interest is Jacques Demy's Lady Oscar film, which is of course based on the manga. BTW--for those in Toronto, they will be screening this film at the Bell Lightbox sometime this summer as part of their Demy film series. I don't think it's considered one of his better films, but still, an interesting curiousity.

I haven't heard of that one. Is it a live action, French-language movie or something?

It's live action. Never heard of Demy? I guess in all honesty he was one of the lesser known directors of the French New Wave, though. Some would argue that he doesn't even really belong in that group.
