Anime Parodies

The roughly mid-90's and earlier (generally pre-Toonami, pre-anime boom) era of anime & manga fandom: early cons, clubs, tape trading, Nth Generation VHS fansubs, old magazines & fanzines, fandubs, ancient merchandise, rec.arts.anime, and more!

I stand corrected dave, had no idea about that fact. I got my information from a tape trader back in the day, who knows where they got their facts from other than word of mouth.

My copy of dirty pair does dishes is real horrible, it was recorded on a EP speed tape with a fansub version of dirty pair flash and some dirty pair OVA, I was a big fan back in the day. I mastered it to DVD but have not watched it in quite awhile.

Actually, after further research, it seems pinesalad has a youtube channel with some clips

I actually ripped ranma 1/3 from my vhs to dvd collection, i'll upload it within the next week or two, its a huge file so it'll take awhile. I'm not *too* worried about it since it seems like most of ranma 1/2 is uploaded on youtube, however I dont advocate this!

For the life of me, I can't remember if I saw "Dirty Pair Does Dishes" before "Star Dipwads" or not. I know Matt and CB had been working on "Star Dipwads" before I met them. All I know is that we must have screened the Dirty Pair parody (as well as "Dipwads") at every gathering of more than four people for several years. Both the Pinesalad crew (Dirty Pair) and the Dipwads guys (Corn Pone Flicks) were present at the first Project A-Kon in Dallas and were treated like royalty, when they weren't staging water gun fights in the halls. We made three "Dipwads" sequels and I think they all premiered at various A-Kons.

I did get to see "You Say Yamato" years later (after I wrote the thing for Let's Anime) and it's passably funny.

Some Seishun Shitemasu stuff here: http://www.veoh.com/users/seishun-shitemasu

These parodies would be nice to have in the Museum. I don't want anyone getting peeved at me, including the people who worked on these things, so I'm hesitant to upload the full videos, but I'd like to get some screenshots and clips at least.

Lemme know if anyone would be willing to get me some of the videos to work with. I can provide a place for file transfer.

I was just re-reading what I'd written about my trip to the San Diego Comic Con '07 and my conversation with Peter Payne. He told me that they also did a Robotech IV by using Macross II animation footage, however I do not see this listed on their seishun.org website that Jen linked to. I wonder what happened to this?

I have 4 Pinesalad "Dirty Pair" Parodies- 1. Dirty Pair does dishes, 2. Revenge of B.D., 3. A Fist full of Pasta, 4. Viva La Dirty Pair.
Loved all the sound effects “Brrruummmmm....” goes the car!

Converted to pal VHS (back in the day) and now digitised via my all-in-one Panasonic VHS to DVD recorder! :-) (got to save those old Anime).

I've never seen Ranma 1/3 myself, but I've heard about it over the years. Maybe I should actually give it a watch now that it's online. XD

Has anyone ever seen "Nescaflowne"? http://animefanparodies.org/movies/nescaflone/

I saw it in 2003 and thought it was pretty funny. I watched it again a couple of years ago on Youtube and it's still fairly amusing, given it's age. By the same people that made "Fanboy Bebop".

Never ever saw Ranma 1/3 before! Ahh that's just like a true fansub, where all the reds are blurred. XD

I saw this link a while ago where I got some torrents of Pinesalad Dirty Pair vids from. Hopefully they still work for folks!

Well the site I linked for Nescaflowne has them up for streaming, if you want to watch without downloading anything (as well as some parodies I've never even heard of, lol.) So that's an option, too.

What always amazes me is that everything it seems can be labeled as a parody these days and get away with it! Hard core porn movies with the Marvel characters are considered parody? Since when? I still remember the old Air Pirates case with Dan o'neill back in the day...it was ruled that Disney characters were not open for parody! Yet with Marvel now owned by Disney they have not levied lawsuits against the porn companies? Of course, no one is trying to do a Mickey Mouse parody again to try to overturn the old case...
