Free screening of Akira at select Alamo Drafthouse locations

Post by usamimi »

To celebrate Akira's 25th anniversary, Funimation's teamed up with Alamo Drafthouse to do free screenings of Akira: http://www.funimation.com/blog/?p=2636& ... e=Facebook

There is a $5 voucher you need to buy to reserve your seat, but you can use that towards concessions at the theater. Attendees will also receive a code for 40% off the new Akira blu-ray via Funimation's shop.

I thought this was a damn cool promotion, too bad I don't live closer to an Alamo. ;__; But in case anyone here does, I figured it'd be worth posting. I'm not sure if they're showing the original or one of the dubs, but hey--either way, free chance to see Akira on a big screen again!

If I had the money for traveling 3 hours, I'd totally go to that one (that's the one in the Dallas area, right?)...man, I need to move closer to the Dallas area.

Yes, Richardson is a suburb of Dallas. Sorry that you won't be able to attend usamimi!

Alamo has been expanding for a while now, and there has been talk that even us Canadians would get some. One day you might get a theatre closer to you, and they ran Akira before not too long ago at a few of their locations so it's a popular film to screen.

But a free screening is hard to pass up, and future showing definitely wouldn't be free

Exactly! I mean, you have to pay the $5 for reserving your seat, but you get to use that on drinks/food, so really, that is an amazing deal. I dunno how Funimation pulled that off, but they do mention on the website to consider spending more on food/drinks to show your appreciation to Alamo for the free movie. (Which I thought was nice of them--hopefully people will.)
