It's always interesting to see just how different the American anime industry was back in those days. As glad as I am that this is not the version of Sailor Moon that we received in the United States, I would absolutely love to get my hands on a copy of the pilot that was produced!
This site has some fantastic information about the Sailor Moon localization that almost was.
In particular, I found it interesting that both the Sailor Moon logo that DIC eventually used as well as the somewhat infamous "Moon Cycle" toy seem to originate from the work done by Toon Makers!

oh man, I remember when that video originally surfaced online...I laughed so hard I nearly cried. Seriously, that would've been SO AWFUL. I'm so glad it never truly got made.
I remember I think it was a year or two ago when all those animation cels used for the promo started popping up on eBay...people were freaking out. Some people I know even bought them! Mostly because they're just a weird Sailor Moon "curiosity" now. So bizarre. XD

*pfff*
I'll see your crappy Sailor Moon marketing failure and raise you...
Doozy Bots!

Circa 1992, IIRC. Proof, final, ultimate proof that not only does Bandai just not understand the American market, they also hate us.
It should be obvious the entire point of Doozy Bots was to try and sell repackaged SD Gundam toys and model kits to America. They tried again with Superior Defenders (remember that?).

Wow. Just... WOW. You're right, both of these shows demonstrate the mindset before the anime boom. It looks like a Barbie Doll commercial or something, showing off her moon earrings and such. It doesn't really demonstrate how the show is supposed to switch between live action and animation, but it's not like I really care anyway. So cheesy!
