Long before I was born, my father's career start in the Navy brought him to 1950's Japan. I don't think he was stationed in the region, but he still had old Kodak slides of his visit. However, unlike his photos of Europe, the sites pictured were never identified. I had some scanned that I could tell there were notable features or landmarks. I'd like to know if anyone recognizes these places, or if there is a good site online for visual searches?
In addition to photos, my father returned with one of those souvenir reversible jackets. It has fantastically stitched designs including a tiger head, eagle, and an island map.
