I must be a special sort of dumb because I never thought about that. I wonder how much support for open drivers there are for wireless/RFID peripherals like that there is? That's where I would expect the breakdown to be. With both nVidia and ATI having an about face on open drivers & protocols for their hardware, I'm not at all worried about a video card that won't work. We're having dinner with one of my good friends (who got me first interested in Linux/FOSS, etc.) and his wife tonight, I'll ask him if he knows.

With this latest Windows 8 fiasco and with how terrible every other iteration of Windows has been, and my reluctance to pay through the nose for Apple's Colorful Shiny Objects, I am so willing to just go straight Linux, except for compatibility issues. Maybe I'll start a Linux thread in the Off Topic section.
I would turn my last Windows box back to 7 in a heartbeat, if it hadn't "become my fiance's laptop" from 8. I heard (somewhere) that the rumor mill has Win9 returning to 7 styling and function and ditching Win8 Metro UI.
Start that Linux thread, too. Be glad to hop in and talk shop. Compatibility is something that is still present in *nix environments but is no longer a nightmare it used to be. Probably more folks around here that know/use it than I might assume, so, maybe some of my issues can be addressed/resolved.
On topic - was helping my fiancee house/dog-sit for an acquaintance of hers, so I got to sit around anf watch cartoons all morning. I was told to bring DVDs, so I didn't even take a flash drive. Decided to sit back and watch some of the second half of Yoroiden Samurai Troopers/Ronin Warriors for nostalgia's sakes. I think I am starting to understand why not many of my friends like the show but I still get a kick out of it.
