92-2002 Fan Illustrations
In order to reclaim some green, I tried to sell fan art at some of the convention shows I attended 15+ years ago. Just like a retro manga artist, I work in watercolor and ink pens. I painted large pieces so they would stand out on the sales floor...the Jubei montage is about 3 feet wide. Comic style work was limited to pages for the short lived ACEN Dojin panel, and a quick parody story I did after graduating college. The latter is so old my scans are too small for modern monitors. One day I'll have to scan the originals again for higher resolution and better type.

Your work looks fantastic labsenpai! I particularly like your FLCL piece, it's absolutely gorgeous.
I'm always amazed when people have watercolor skills like you do; I find it to be a difficult medium to work with. It must have taken you a long time to develop such proficiency!

I had one art teacher through grade school and she was a watercolorist...
Since a lot of pieces didn't sell, they are still around to photograph. One friend was into fashion oriented titles, which led to the Gokinjo painting and one for SUPERGALS. I can't tell you how many issues of teen mags I had to look through for their outfits. Also below is my companion piece to the Saito/Scooby parody, a page dedicated to another ACEN guest, Tsukasa Kotobuki. I was very unhappy when that project fell apart in Chicago. Presented as well are old (quirky anatomy) illustrations for Toshinden and Maison Ikkoku.
