In other old-school news, Maiden Japan has licensed the original Patlabor OVA series for U.S. distribution...it will be released on Bluray, too. Is this the first North American BD release of a pre-1990s anime that's NOT a film?

I'm not entirely sure what the first North American Blu-Ray release of a pre-1990s anime (non-film) is, but I can confirm that Funimation's DragonBall Z Level Sets (1.1 and 1.2) beat this release to the North American market.

I am satisfied with the Patlabor OVA series that USMC already released. I'll pass on that one, but I can imagine that since those older releases are out of distribution, they may have become scarce and in need of a re-release.

To be fair, DragonBall Z began airing in 1989, so I think most of us (myself included) tend to associate it with the nineties and the original DragonBall with the eighties.
