So, I was a dummy and someone retweeted to my Twitter feed a Y!AJ link to a Daicon IV VHS with a limit of 12,000Y. I didn't save the link, I didn't immediately post it here.
I've been looking for the LD+book set for a long time already and the only time I found one it was already over 150USD. I considered the tape but hassling with Yahoo Auctions in Japan wasn't worth getting just the tape. I know greg's used them a lot but they typically don't ship overseas, do they?

Yeah, with probably 90% of Y!Auctions, they don't ship outside of Japan, so you'd have to use a shopping/bidding service...which usually costs a percentage of the item's cost. Then you have to pay shipping from the item to them, and the shipping from them to you. So it can get costly. I tried it once a LONG time ago, and a $9 item ended up costing me about $29 with fees and shipping. :/ It sucks, but if it's something really hard to find (or you can get a good deal) sometimes it's worth the hassle!

^Good to know, thanks, usamimi!
Since this weekend is Anime Weekend Atlanta, I stopped by the Super Happy Fun Sell anime flea market this past Thursday after work. I wound up hitting a jack pot, that I never thought I would hit - 19 sequential volumes of Kyoujin no Hoshi, in Japanese for $20 bucks! I never recalled seeing Kyoujin no Hoshi at the couple BOOK OFFs I hit in Japan though I would imagine that they might cycle through pretty quickly. But something like that is not something I would really expect to see here for the usual reasons: it's old, it's sports, it's in Japanese. Should make for some excellent panel fodder when I decide to get back on that horse again.

Dude, that IS quite lucky!! Man, I love swaps/sales like that at cons. I wish the one at A-kon was bigger--the one I went to at Anime Boston was massive, and I ended up walking away with some great things, and seeing a lot of old stuff there as well that I
wished I could've brought home with me!

That's awesome you could find such a treasure!

I wish more West coast cons would do swaps/garage sales, I'm so mad they don't. I hear about them at other cons and people scoring awesome stuff and I'm just like augh.

Well, you could always try to start it up yourself, if you have the time! They gotta start somewhere, right?

I think I suggested it at Sakuracon, on the forums before (which are gone) and they had some lame excuse why they couldn't do it. I should try again though, maybe at Aki-Con or something that doesn't seem so elitist now, haha!

Well, putting in suggestions is good, but you could always try to run one! If you submit it as a panel or something as a no-money swap meet, you can see if it could stick! (And it would probably be easier to run than an actual panel, I'd assume XD)

Regarding Sakuracon, it may well be a legal issue, state or city. Taxes and licenses. Dealers may voice unhappiness over competition undercutting their prices. And the resistance may well be nothing more than "I didn't think of it" or not-invented-here power politics in action.

That's understandable if it was a buy-and-sell situation, but since swap meets generally have a "no money allowed" rule, I don't see why you couldn't at least apply for one and see if it gets approved.
