SENTAI FILMWORKS INKS DEAL WITH TATSUNOKO PRODUCTION
HOUSTON, July 4, 2013 — Tatsunoko Production and Sentai Filmworks today announced its acquisition of hundreds of hours of programming from Tatsunoko Production’s library. This exclusive license includes eleven of the most influential and beloved anime series, including such classics as Gatchaman and Casshan.
“We’re really excited to bring these Tatsunoko Production titles to anime fans of all generations. Particularly at a time when technology allows us to reach viewers not only through traditional media, but also compelling new digital platforms,” said John Ledford, President of Sentai Filmworks.
Details, including titles, release dates and formats, and digital outlets will be forthcoming over the next year as each of the licensed series is prepared for release.
About Tatsunoko Production:
“The dream for children from all of the world…”
These words are the corporate motto and led to the foundation of Tatsunoko Production in 1962. Tatsunoko made the first step into the world of animation by giving birth to “Space Ace” in 1965 and then to “Mach Go Go Go (a.k.a. Speed Racer)” in 1967. Beginning in the late ‘60s, Tatsunoko’s original animations were sweeping over the world and sending hits to every genre such as “Gatchaman” and “Samurai Pizza Cats”. Tatsunoko celebrates its 50th anniversary and is planning to utilize and exploit the world renowned properties to expand into the broader entertainment and services market.

I'm curious to see exactly which series they're going to release, since AnimeSols has Yatterman, New Yatterman, and Tekkaman...and funny they mention Samurai Pizza Cats, since Discotek has that, lol. I'm kinda hoping they might have Time Bokan or something, since I loved the English VHS tapes they released here when I was a kid. XD

Ooooh, The Right Stuf just announced they're gonna be releasing Cat's Eye starting next year!
I'm excited, I loved what little of the series I've seen...now maybe I'll actually get to see the whole thing!

You know, Tatsunoko can say that but in the middle to late 70s, they were eclipsed by Toei and that was that. Most of their stuff was never released here, so it has no presence, so it remains to be seen as to what they release. Would be nice to have a complete subbed set of Gold Litan though. They did have a lot of hits worldwide.
The Tatsunoko vs. Capcom game just sits forelornly on the shelf at the local Electronics Boutique as no one has any idea who the Tatsunoko characters are...other than me of course...

That game is pretty fun. I think older people will recognize the Battle of the Planets/G Force characters. Unfortunately, I was expecting Speed Racer to be in the game. The thought of Macross characters being in there also crossed my mind, but that would've been a long-shot. Tatsunoko played a pretty big part in my childhood, between these shows as well as watching Super Book/Flying House in Sunday school._D_ wrote:The Tatsunoko vs. Capcom game just sits forelornly on the shelf at the local Electronics Boutique as no one has any idea who the Tatsunoko characters are...other than me of course...
Nice! I missed this series when it was released by ImaginAsian years back. I wonder if it's the HD version that was released in Japan:usamimi wrote:Ooooh, The Right Stuf just announced they're gonna be releasing Cat's Eye starting next year!I'm excited, I loved what little of the series I've seen...now maybe I'll actually get to see the whole thing!

Considering it's TRSI, I think they'd definitely try to get the HD version. I mean, the re-release of Utena they did had the best picture I'd ever seen! And they've been working so hard on that remaster of Princess Knight, too.

Niiice. Predictably, Cat's Eye doesn't seem to getting as much buzz online as the other Nozomi announcements. I will never understand why people get more excited about license rescues than stuff that has never been released here before. I mean, I liked Princess Nine a lot, but it's hardly the most difficult show to track down today even if it's been OOP for a while.
As for Tatsunoko vs Capcom, apparently the music is slightly changed in the American version. I believe that in the Japanese version, the Tatsunoko characters' stages consist of remixes of their old anime theme music. Rights issues must have prevented them from making the trip overseas intact.

Same for Gold Litan and Muteking. Go ahead, ADV-no-matter-what-you pretend-to-call-yourself, I dare you. I DARE you. Go WAY outside the box.
Re: The old-school anime DVD/BD news thread.
Yeah, Muteking. I remember watching it when I was in college taking electronics back in the 1980s...
