I am consistently impressed with Discotek's catalog. I've often made jokes that they became a company just so they'd release anime I personally wanted to buy.

Seriously, though, I was AMAZED (and shocked, really) when I discovered their re-release of The Sea Prince & The Fire Child. I watched that movie a million times over as a kid, so as soon as I heard about the release I told everyone I knew that I wanted that for Christmas...and 2 years ago, I did get it as a gift. The quality was great, and they even included the old 80s dub track! (Which I watched again, and was actually impressed--by today's dubbing standards, it holds up pretty well!) After that, I made it a point to order Project A-ko and Galaxy Express with the next Amazon gift card I got and I wasn't disappointed. ESPECIALLY with Galaxy Express, omg...the picture quality of their release is amazing for a DVD. I heard someone on Amazon say that they put it side by side with Japan's blu-ray release, and the picture quality was almost as good or the same, which I didn't believe until I actually watched it. It is seriously a thing of beauty. I want to get the rest of the movies eventually.

Well, who am I kidding, I want to get about 90% of their catalog, lets be honest. XD I'm even excited for their Samurai Pizza Cats releases. I also got both Unico films last A-kon...talk about nostalgia bomb. Those dubs sure brought back memories.<3

I really want to get the Little Nemo blu-ray they're releasing soon, too. I heard them say on Facebook that if Little Nemo does well, they'll consider doing more major blu-ray releases! (Oh man, if they could get the original Gunbuster, Robot Carnival, or the new Urusei Yatsura blu-rays they just announced in Japan, I would personally kiss each and every one of them.)

Yeah, Discotek is awesome. I need to make a large purchase from them pretty soon here. I thought my DVD collecting days were mostly behind me, but those bastards are pulling me back in.

Can anyone confirm Mazinger Z? I can't find reference to it on their FB page... only Devilman.

Sad in a way that the Pizza Cats discs do not have (as an extra) an episode of Teyande in subs. I have a few things like episodes of the series and the Doujinshi (which isn't even on the fansite) and found the original series to be very amusing in its own right...

Wait, supposedly they're getting Mazinger Z?? Who's claiming that?

They probably don't have it as an extra because they figure if you wanted it, you'd probably just by their Teyande DVD set? But that would've been a good way to advertise the Teyande box set on the Pizza Cats one, I guess, lol.

I'm guessing Mazinger might be pushed to 2014 or very late 2013. I've found that after announcing a license, the announcement stays on for about 2 months, then disappears from their FB page until they're ready to announce the official release date. Lovely Complex and Captain Harlock couldn't be found on their FB page in the months prior to them announcing their release dates. Even though we know they licensed them last year. Cutie Honey's release date was announced this week, so there is a new page for her, but try finding the reference from when it was licensed last year. You can't. They took it off. (CH was licensed at the same time as Mazinger Z, as well).

I'm guessing it's to prevent page clutter. I remember in the past they'd keep everything they posted on their FB pages within the last 12 months. Guess they decided to stop doing that.

If you're getting worried, you can look at their official website's blog from October 2012, though. That's when they announced the license. It's still there

Mazinger Z. Complete series 1-92 on DVD. We're aiming for the end of 2013 for first box set.
Of course, these "goals" are never set in stone. Captain Harlock was originally "aimed" at July. Instead it's August. Cutie Honey was originally "aimed" at August. Instead it's actually November.

OH, damn, you're right! I totally spaced on that, haha. I shouldn't post stuff as soon as I wake up....I haven't shaken the cobwebs from my brain yet.

Well, you joined this forum a few months after that announcement, so it's actually possible you really could have missed it! :) Older anime licenses aren't exactly big news stories on most anime websites.

Mazinger Z is also 92 episodes. Not exactly something you can crank out quickly. To be honest, I'm pretty surprised that a small company like Discotek has been able to release so many TV series within a short span. That's a lot of subtitling work for them. Hope no QC issues pop up.

And Tekkaman Blade II is nowhere to be found. Not that I'm eager, just want it out. If they really put the 'episode zero' preview on the disc I'll be very happy and the Urban Vision disc can go into a box.

I was looking at Amazon Japan and saw that 'The Cockpit' suddenly has a Blu-Ray coming out. Wouldn't shock me if suddenly that appeared in some twitfeed as a Discotek release.

Some shows definitely take priority over others. Captain Harlock is being released rather quickly after it was licensed. Meanwhile, other shows, like Lovely Complex, was seemingly announced ages ago and came out much, much later than expected.
