The anime version of Gunsmith Cats, released 1995 by Kodansha/VAP/Tokyo Broadcasting and a year later in North America by ADV Films, is an original animation story. Yup, that is false. I have that version-- "Bulletproof"--and it is 3 separate episodes on one DVD. DVD menu screen allows you to select the 3 episodes individually, each episode has their own opening and end credits. I think some people just assumed it was compiled into a movie because it's all on one DVD and has a silly DVD title. Still silly logic though, since a lot of OVAs in general were compiled into one DVD.

Whoa, thanks for clearing that up! I wonder what made people assume that? Weird! :?

I'm still going through my friend's DVD collection and am only up to the "B" section section. Even with 2 computers, it's a real job to rip all the discs. It will take some months to do.

Hey, I just watched a fan sub of Gatchaman II episode 1 on YouTube. Weird that it is there at all, seeing as how anal most of the Japanese studios are these days with postings and all. I'll have to see how many episodes were done. Anyone else watched any of these?

I haven't seen it, but I imagine that episode will get yanked from YouTube sooner or later.

Just found on Usenet all 52 episodes of Gatchaman II and 7 episodes of Gatchaman Fighter in English subs. Never knew a subbed version was produced by any group. Might be worth a look...

Happy Golden Week! We're visiting the in-laws up in the cool mountains of Nagano Prefecture. I brought my DVD of Space Adventure Cobra: The Movie to watch with my J-mom and J-sis. My wife and I watched this movie as a fansub many years ago. Since I had watched it right after the TV series, I didn't care for it much. Not having seen either one for quite a while, I enjoyed this movie quite a lot. It hails from a time when science fiction could just be science fantasy, and not feel the need to make sense. As a result, this movie is so vividly surreal and is more of a display of high quality animation more than anything. What's the practicality of a naked woman sitting atop a firey horse? Wouldn't that burn her pretty lady parts? Who cares! Naked chicks on flaming horses are cool---that's why. All she lacks is a badass sword or spear something. It's a fantastic universe where dangerous lunatic aliens' heads can survive without a body and fly around, armies of marching robots fall prey to Cobra's Psycho Gun, and full-bosomed women stride around wearing skimpy, impractical clothing. None of it is practical, but all of it is just part of the bizarre universe of Buichi Terasawa.

My mom lit up when she saw Shigeru Matsuzaki's name in the credits as Cobra, and also the singer for the theme song of the movie. She also recognized Akiko Nakamura as Jane, who is also a well-known singer in Japan, apparently. I do remember the voice actors being different from the TV show.

Next I look forward to the TV series released by Nozomi/Right Stuf (YAY!), as well as the Figma Cobra figure coming out soon!

The Space Adventure Cobra movie is a flick that should definitely be watched in the highest visual quality possible. Watching it on a ratty fansub doesn't do it justice, since it's one of the most visually attractive anime films ever made. I love the Cobra universe. It definitely hails from the Heavy Metal/Barbarella era of science fiction, and there's something about the pulp science fantasy of that time which still tickles my inner teenager.

There's already a Figma Cobra out, that instantly went OOP and sick money is being demanded by those holding it in stock. I don't know what it is about Figmas but they seem to have crazy low production runs. I think I got very lucky grabbing my Tekkaman Blade.

I'm hoping there IS a second release for Cobra. he and (Revoltech) Lupin III need to talk. :)
