Ya know, it might be just about the right time to re-introduce BGC. We've kind of gone thru an entire cycle, where something like BGC, a gender-swapped action-adventure team show, is actually similar to everything that currently airs.

While I can't say BGC has much in the way of MOE and completely zero Harem tropes, it's still 'Gals doing stuff', right?

But OTOH, it's chock-a-block full of Hot Blood and light on the Genki. The Violence that used to be part of the 'boobs and blood' dynamic, oh-so-important to the demographic back in the day, might actually be off-puttting to those more used to 'Herbavore Male' storytelling.

And call me crazy, I think about $19.99 MSRP is about right for a complete BGC collection. Tag that puppy at $49.99 or even more and you'll completely kill sales. The ONLY way to justify a high price is if they did a collector's set and included all the soundtrack CDs plus the two Music Video collections.

*heheheeh*but, you know, not my company. :)

Yeah, the only way I'd pay $49.99 is if it came with AD Police & some soundtracks, since they already said that they probably wouldn't be able to get Bubblegum Crash in there. $20-25 for just the series and some extras is a good price, though, considering that's what I paid for the last DVD box they did, iirc.

I'd be curious to see what the young anime fans of today would think about BGC, given the kind of things that are trendy and commonplace in anime right now. I know BGC is still big with people our age, or people with a fondness for all things "cyberpunk" or retro-futuristic, but like you said--since there's not a harem thing going on and it's definitely not moe, I wonder if some would shrug it off as either "outdated" or "weird" (since they're girls kicking ass, but most of the time when they do, they're FULLY CLOTHED?! WHAT A RIP OFF! ). But there is still plenty of fanservice to be had (though it'd be considered pretty tame by today's standards, I think), so...I dunno.

And then of course you have the fans that might actually know BGC, except they remember the REMAKE and not the original and might prefer that. :? Yuck.

If it were a retail release today, a BD set of BGC *would* probably sell for 49.99. Heck, Sentai's Patlabor OVA BD's retail price was $39.99, and that's a shorter OVA series than BGC by about 240 minutes. The price being offered in that draft for the most basic package is very reasonable.

Ah, I forgot about that! That's true.

Looks like Animeigo updated their draft: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/121 ... n=107d75bf

Basic $25 set that was limited to 1,000 backers is now gone, replaced with a $50 basic set with no backer limit. They're also saying now that the entire production will be "Crowd Produced"--as in backers will get to decide on extras and such after the funding is over, and what to use "extra" funding on. There's also more incentives for high backers, like animation cels.

It definitely seems like they're listening to what potential backers have to say, which is a very good sign!

Sentai just announced they'll be re-releasing Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water next March--on DVD AND blu-ray! I'm really excited about that, I loved this series and I'd been hoping someone would do this ever since I heard about the HD remaster they did in Japan. XD

Disotek just announced on their Facebook page that they'll be re-releasing DNA2, Dragon Half, and Lupin the Third: Bye Bye Liberty Crisis on DVD next year! If I recall, Bye Bye Liberty Crisis has never gotten a DVD release here, so that's pretty awesome. Everyone's already asking if it'll have the old Manga UK dub on it or not yet.

Thank you for the updates! I hope Discotek will release the 2nd series of Lupin eventually. I finally bought the first one recently as a Christmas gift to my wife.

Ah, I forgot to mention they're also picking up the 2 Fatal Fury specials to go along with their picking up the motion picture. XD

Wake me when they post a release date for the Dr. Slump movies disc. :)
