Well now that you mention it, the premise of Farenheit 451 had a similar premise of a society in which books were taboo because they were considered "upsetting," and that book (and movie) required a similar suspension of disbelief.

Mecha? Why didn't anyone mention this part sooner? Now I'd really like to see this. I still haven't seen Macross F yet, though. (Though I've been buying the Macross F snacks at combinis lately.)

I mentioned in one of my comments that "They not only sing, but they also use weaponry and mechs to fight off the "Deep Galactic Trade Organization" who try to bring them down." You must've missed that, greg!

I would assume it was implied by the statement:
Shojo Kawamori helped create it
but I decided to state it explicitly anyway. (plus, I'm amused by the "itasha-mecha" gag they have in there)
Been dipping my toes into older series, starting with a first episode here and there, and the occasional short OAV. All I have time for as of recent. So I started with Idol Densetsu Eriko, I kept thinking it was a magical girl anime, but it's idols. And wasn't expecting what happened in the first episode. The only thing that bugs me is the narrator points out incredibly obvious things, LOL. I get it's probably for kids who wouldn't "get it" but it still bugged me. But I want to finish it.
Also watching random episodes of Sailor Moon. Sailor Moon is always enjoyable.
And so I watched the finale of 'Attack on Titan' and man. OK, decent ending but right up there with Berserk TV on the "Make more NOW what's WRONG with you?!" list.
Many many questions, much of it buried in the context of the 'world building'.
No, I don't read the manga.
Anyway, good show. It's one I would have 'blind bought' without question.
I agree, I liked the ending, though there's still much to go over. I think they intend to make more, they're just waiting for the manga to go a bit further instead of trying to come up with filler. (Which I'm thankful for...filler in that series would've been really hard to do.)
We've moved onto Galaxy Angel AA, having finished Galaxy Angel A over the weekend. I realized that I bought these DVDs separately a while back, but never got around to watching them. So, this is our first time. Their "magical girl" episode was hilarious! I am not so well-versed with magical girl anime, but the sequence they did spoofed Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura, and even Urusei Yatsura and Zeta Gundam.
So as we were talking about anime based off of video games in another thread, Galaxy Angel is a pretty good one. It doesn't try to be like the games, and instead is just slapstick humor. Although some occasional episodes are rather serious, and seem to be similar to a Star Trek: The Next Generation episode.
We have now moved on to Galaxy Angel X, the final series. I bought this collected volume set in August and my friend brought it with him when he visited in September. Unlike the previous Galaxy Angel box sets, Bandai had the sense to release this set of 3 DVDs and have them all fit inside a case the size of a regular, single DVD. It's a waste of space to have a 3 or 4 DVD box set to come in a wide clamshell if it is not necessary. In their latter years, Bandai got the smarts to release their stuff in sets that are the size of a regular single DVD case. My Gundam TV series, Galaxy Angel X, and K-On are like this. I never got Haruhi, but I really hope somebody else will re-release that series! It was too big of a show to let it go OOP.
One think I've noticed with Galaxy Angel is that the animators actually have the smarts to draw bullets in the chambers of revolvers. When Forte pulls out her pistol (which is every episode), when showing a close-up you can see the bullets inside the chambers. I have seen too many anime where they forget that part.
After this, I think we may move on to watching the rest of Yawara. My friend snagged the fansubs for me (I'm sad that AnimEigo couldn't finish the series), so now we'll finally get to see the rest of the series. However, my wife and I have also been pretty nostalgic for Votoms lately. Maybe we'll watch that after Yawara.
I've actually been watching quite a bit. I got a Crunchyroll account for a few of this season's anime, and I don't normally watch much when new seasons start. I have seen Kyokai no Kanata, Kill la Kill (dropped it though), Meganebu!, and I will probably watch Ace of Diamond tonight.
