Yeah, Birdy DVD was pure luck. Found it used in a store for $5. Unfortunately, CPM didn't put the whole OVA in one DVD set, so I don't get episodes 3+4. And the 2nd volume is even harder to find. On the bright side, that left a lot more room to devote to a better bit rate so this is one of the better looking CPM DVDs.

Yeah the 2nd one is the hardest to find. Every time i see either vol online it's for crazy banana prices! I wish Discotek would pick it up, it's a fun old oav.

Re: Bubblegum Crisis love thread
What I love the most about Bubblegum Crisis is its soundtrack, which I of course own. Maybe not the proper place to ask this, but are there other OVAs with such big focus on music? I can't think of any that have resultet in so many full songs with lyrics and everything.
I also own the same book that Greg posted on page 4, the B-club Special. It also came a little leaflet of other books as well as pointing out the location of the B-club shop. I wonder when that one disappeared. There's also a robot hiding behind the dust jacket of the book.

As far as I know, there wasn't anything else to the extent that they released individual episode soundtracks, but plenty of other OVAs have had a major focus on music. To-Y (トーイ)is a big one. The Zillion Burning Night OVA draws from the same Streets of Fire inspiration of BGC.Valand wrote: ↑Mon Mar 05, 2018 3:41 am What I love the most about Bubblegum Crisis is its soundtrack, which I of course own. I wrote about the B-Club last year (including a photo of what the second location looks like today) http://www.zimmerit.moe/anime-archaeolo ... club-shop/I also own the same book that Greg posted on page 4, the B-club Special. Thanks, I'll defintely check To-Y out. I had encountered Zillion before through merchandize on Yahoo Auctions and thought it seemed interesting, so now I'm really tempted.zimmerit wrote: ↑Tue Mar 06, 2018 11:18 pm As far as I know, there wasn't anything else to the extent that they released individual episode soundtracks, but plenty of other OVAs have had a major focus on music. What a gold mine you have there! It was an interesting read and I'll be reading a lot more than just that one for sure.zimmerit wrote: ↑Tue Mar 06, 2018 11:18 pmI wrote about the B-Club last year (including a photo of what the second location looks like today) http://www.zimmerit.moe/anime-archaeolo ... club-shop/
As for the photo, that's a a quite sad transformation. Do you know whether any other otaku shop of the time has survived until today? I know of Mandarake of course.

Re: Bubblegum Crisis love thread
Burning Night OVA is the one similar to Streets of Fire on how it starts out, including the opening music act and what happens to the character Apple. Of course it then does its own thing separate from Streets of Fire, but the underlying plot is about one to one. The TV series does it's own thing and its a fun show to watch (based on the Streamline Dub i've seen of it so far, which they only did the first 5 ep sadly.)I've become a big of a fan of Zillion since I have a couple of image vinyl records I picked up from a dealer at AWA last year, pretty cool stuff.Valand wrote:Thanks, I'll defintely check To-Y out. Ops I messed up that quote. Sorry for the double post, I take it regular users aren't allowed to edit their posts here? Or didn't I look hard enough?

Yeah post edits were disabled some time ago (before I joined). Hopefully this can change in the future but we'll have to wait on the admin.
