Heh. And according to the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, the entire planet Earth was a giant computer designed to compute the great answer to life, the universe, and everything... until it was destroyed.

So today is September 1st, and my grandiose plans to absorb as many anime titles as possible during the summer never came to fruition. I'm most of the way through Macross, which I have mostly watched in the background while working on models. Aside from catching the occasional Ranma 1/2 episode on Kids' Station, I've recently watched a bit of Magical Taruruuto-kun (まじかる☆タルるートくん) on Kids' Station for the first time. I own the game for the Sega Megadrive, but I've never seen this show. It certainly has that early-'90s vibe that I like, but I haven't seen much of it to really think much of it. It was on mostly in the background, and my daughter was mostly paying attention to it.

On Saturday when the live-action Lupin movie premiered, they were showing a lot of Lupin episodes and movies on Kids' Station.

Today, Minki Momo has started on Animax. I've begun recording that for my daughter to watch. We'll likely start that tomorrow morning.

I been watching Deathnote and Sword Art on Netflix almost nonstop. I have been enjoying BoJack Horseman.

So my daughter and I are up to episode 3 of the Minky Momo remaster airing on Kid's Station. She's a child with pink hair who drives her car around and transforms into an adult's body in order to solve problems. Seriously, she drives her car and trailer around and apparently it's okay for a child to have a license. You get a good view of her ass when she transforms, so that may explain some of the adult male attention it gathered when the show was new.

Fatal Fury The Motion Picture from Discotek. This movie is so cheesy, but it has only made this age even better. Tremendous party fun, tons of hilarious lines and reactions in both the original and the dub. I like how Discotek is taking these "B" type anime movies that have been forgotten or ignored in both Japan and America and creating new transfers out of them. Their Locke the Superman and Fatal Fury TMP releases are the only ones ANYWHERE with an anamorphic widescreen. What other old "B" anime movies has Japan largely forgotten?

Just finished Psycho Pass. Maybe it was all of the high-expectations from everyone telling me how great it is, but I was left extremely disappointed. They had some great world-building and the initial plot was very intriguing. Sadly, I felt that after a few episodes the show started to meander. The characters never intrigued me, nor did I ever feel that the stakes were ever high enough to become invested in. Halfway through the series it started to become a chore to watch, but I trudged on. Simply felt "meh" by the end.

Going to the Naruto movie on Thursday at the local cinema. I got free tickets again so that's a big help...

So what do you think of it so far? I have nothing but fondness for the show. Yeah, Ayukawa is made to be some superwoman who can do anything, and it gets a bit silly how she can't even go anywhere without having dickbrain bozos coming onto her and she ends up beating them up. It's like she can't even go to the post office to buy stamps without some jerks trying to force themselves on her. "Hey, we don't like the way you refused our friend's awkward, creepy, and vulgar advances. It looks like we'll have to teach you a lesson for having the dignity to say no to him." It's still great fun though.

So I've been absorbing some more GS Mikami recently with my daughter. The first DVD was so-so. It established the characters, such as how big of a perv Yokoshima is. It falls into fairly generic anime tropes as a result, but by the 2nd DVD, it's like they realized that just having Yokoshima be a randy perv is not comedic value in itself, but rather the situations that such a guy is put into and his motivations are what are truly funny. We're up to the 3rd DVD now at last. Most nights, my girl just wants to watch Doraemon and Crayon Shin-chan that is aired between 6:30 and 7:30, so it depends on how early I get home and such in order to watch the show with her.

I've lost track of Nadesico several weeks back. I need to finish that before I get started on the new Record of Lodoss War TV box set I received. I also got Power Dolls, Heroic Legend of Arslan, and The Samurai on DVD. My freind from Arizona sent them all to me in a big box.

I thought it was pretty good, but admittedly, it's been so long since there's been a more adult SF series that I let a lot of things slide. They are making a second season, though, so I'm hoping that they take some of the more unresolved plot points back up where they left off. It wasn't the BEST series ever, I def. agree, but I enjoyed it enough to be looking forward to the new season.

I should point out that, while that IS very highly exaggerated, there are instances when I feel like that. (I dunno if it's because I moved down to Texas or WHAT, but whenever I go to run errands alone without Nitro, I almost ALWAYS seem to get some creepy guy who'll try to hit on me or cat-call me. It's really damn annoying.) I think that's one of the reasons I loved Madoka so much--she gets to beat up the guys who get in her face and harass her. She totally IS a superwoman, and I was kind of surprised to see something like that in a shounen series. It was really refreshing.

I forgot about that when I started rewatching GS Mikami, too, so I kinda took a break from it after the first disc. I really should get back to watching that one.

Today in the mail we got the new Robotech/Macross Collection 1 DVD set. Dunno when I'll get a chance to watch it, but I'm looking forward to it! I just finished the new season of Free!, tonight we'll be finishing Nozaki-kun, and I need to finish the rest of Terror in Resonance. Out of all of those, Nozaki-kun was definitely my favorite. A real fun and funny show. TiR has been surprisingly weak, probably the weakest Watanabe series I've ever watched, though it's still not bad.
