Discotek announced last night they'll be releasing the Unico movies on blu-ray since they'll be coming out in Japan this summer. AHHHHHHHH DISCOTEK, I LOVE YOU but I just bought the DVDs last year, lol DAMMIT! XD

Seriously, though, I was wondering if they would, so I'm really happy to hear this. Maybe I'll put it on my Christmas list this year, heh.

Lol, I had the same reaction when I read about that yesterday. Oh well, I'm happy to have them in any form.

A reminder that "Howl's Moving Castle" and "My Neighbor Totoro" will be coming out on Blu-ray next week in the US:

Acclaimed Filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki’s Unforgettable Adventure
Debuts for the First Time in High Definition
on Blu-ray™ Combo Pack May 21, 2013!

Disney and Studio Ghibli proudly present Academy Award®-winning director Hayao Miyazaki’s (Best Animated Feature, 2002, “Spirited Away”) unforgettable animated adventure “Howl’s Moving Castle” in high definition, on Blu-ray for the first time ever -- on May 21, 2013.

The fantastic new Blu-ray Combo Pack release lets “Howl’s Moving Castle” soar like never before with a breathtaking new HD digital transfer of the fantastic animated adventure that celebrates the power of love and the resiliency of the human spirit in the face of adversity.

Brimming with a blend of imagination, humor, action and romance, “Howl’s Moving Castle” is the story of Sophie (voiced by Emily Mortimer), a diligent teenage girl working in her family’s hat shop, who finds her life thrown into turmoil when she is literally swept off her feet by a handsome-but-mysterious wizard named Howl (voiced by Christian Bale). The innocent encounter engages the vain and conniving “Witch of the Waste” (voiced by Lauren Bacall), who transforms Sophie into a 90-year old woman (voiced by Jean Simmons). Sophie’s efforts to break the curse bring her to Howl’s magical moving castle, where she befriends Markl (voiced by Josh Hutcherson), Howl’s apprentice, and the hot-headed fire demon Calcifer (voiced by Billy Crystal). Her love and support have a major impact on Howl, who can be maddeningly self-indulgent and singularly noble as he defies royal orders to participate in a meaningless war and risks his life to protect Sophie.

Cast: Jean Simmons (“Spartacus”) as the voice of Grandma Sophie
Christian Bale (“The Dark Knight” trilogy) as the voice of Howl

===========

Disney proudly celebrates the 25th anniversary of “My Neighbor Totoro,” the acclaimed Studio Ghibli film about the magic of friendship and sisterhood from Academy Award®-winning director Hayao Miyazaki (Best Animated Feature, 2002, ”Spirited Away”) – with the film’s Blu-ray debut on May 21, 2013.

Arriving for the first time on Disney Blu-ray with a spectacular new HD digital transfer, perfect picture and sound, the highly-anticipated release of “My Neighbor Totoro” features the fantastic voice talents of Timothy Daly, Lea Salonga and real-life sisters Dakota Fanning and Elle Fanning.

Lauded as “one of the most beloved of all family films” by critic Roger Ebert, “My Neighbor Totoro” is the heartwarming story of sisters Satsuki (voiced by Dakota Fanning) and Mei (voiced by Elle Fanning). Much to their delight, when Satsuki and her four-year-old sister Mei move into a new home in the countryside, they discover that their new neighbor is a mysterious forest spirit called Totoro—who can be seen only through the eyes of children. Totoro introduces them to extraordinary characters—including a catbus—and takes them on an incredible journey.

Not old-school, but RightStuf will be continuing the UC Gundam DVD releases that Bandai was doing before they abruptly went under in North America. I know a few people here have been watching this OVA.

HAPPY NEWS! Although I may just as well get the ones here secondhand, unless they are very expensive. The Japanese DVDs have English subtitles, which is unusual. I still need to watch the first DVD I have.

Amazon's Gold Box deal of the day is up to 57% off all Studio Ghibli dvds and blu-rays: http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/r ... CM2DWXQ090

EXCELLENT price on the Nausicaa blu-ray ($17.89!!) and if you don't have Princess Mononoke yet, the DVD's less than $10. It's today only though so jump on it if you have the chance!

If you missed Amazon's Miyazaki blu-ray sale, I just got an email from Disney Rewards that they partnered up with Best Buy for a promotion to get $6 off buying the Totoro & Howl's Moving Castle blu-rays together along with your choice of one other Miyazaki title. Here's their web link, see if it works for people who aren't Disney Rewards subscribers: http://links.dvdmailcenter.com/servlet/ ... &mt=1&rt=0

Wow, Sentai Filmworks just announced a bunch of stuff at Anime Boston--the biggest one being their acquisition of the Gatchaman tv and oav series (for both blu-ray and DVD). Apparently they're also rescuing Digi Charat and Goddanarr as well.

The whole Gatchaman (including II and F) or just the original? Lets hope they follow through and release the entire run of episodes of the original series like the last time it was released. No idea what the other series are. What will be interesting to see is who will get the rights to release the theatrical live action Gatchaman movie due out in August in Japan. Would have been nice to see some of the other older Tatsunoko titles like Gold Laitan released but perhaps because it has no history over here there is no call for it...

It didn't specify if it was just the first part or the whole thing...I'm hoping they will do the whole run, that would be amazing! I think they're picking up on the fact that Discotek is starting to corner the market on nostalgia releases and they want to try to get in on that. Which is awesome! More companies should be doing that, imo!
