Thanks for the guide Steve! This is a series I'm interested in, but the high price has been a barrier to entry. I think your comparison to how everyone used to buy tapes is very apt in this scenario. but I'm still not sure I'm ready to take the plunge and begin buying the Yamato 2199 Blu-rays. However, it will be something I keep an eye on in the future.

Oh, believe me, I understand! Money is a serious problem for me, and I've been resistant to the Blu-Ray push, that's a double whammy, yet if I were to decide to finally join the BD folk, it's Yamato 2199 that may well be the final push.

The Stellar Ark (your name version may vary) is a really excellent movie. It's some of the most interesting straight SF I've seen in some time, even if key story elements seem lifted from a Star Trek:TNG episode. It's how it's told, it's the characters involved, it's all the little things sprinkled throughout the film.

Honestly, I might suggest you dip your toe in the water with Stellar Ark. You *know* the basics of the Iscandar story, there's really nobody introduced that isn't given an exposition/background scene and the animation is so pretty.
