On Sunday morning, I watched Raiders of the Lost Ark. I hadn't seen that movie in several years. My daughter watched most of it. She actually liked the ghosts coming out of the ark at the end. She really digs ghosts.

I watched "Life 2.0" a movie about the Second Life online community. It was entertaining even a little interesting. Also, I been watching movies about diet like "Forks over Knives" and "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead" both of these films are about eating a plant based diet to improve your health. I have been experimenting with vegan recipes. I still eat meat sometime, but I try to adhere to a vegan diet.

I would urge caution with veganism. While it is true that people ought to eat more vegetables and Americans obviously fail to do so, veganism is an extreme form of vegetarian. Particularly in the way that vegans exalt the soybean as the ultimate thing ever. Soy is not as healthy as the clever marketing makes it out to be. It is an incomplete protein and an antinutrient, which means that it will actually deplete your body of vitamins and calcium. Furthermore, it is a phytoestrogen, which will increase your estrogen levels. Worst of all, soy attacks your thyroid. Here in Japan, tofu is just something to eat. It is often consumed with a high-iodine diet to keep it in check. For vegans, tofu is a way of life. That is dangerous. Soys benefits are like a double-edged sword, and compound that with the fact that the majority of soy in the USA is GMO, it just makes it worse.
As far as vegetarians go, the folks in India seem to have the better idea. They aren't afraid of milk and cheese. Before the West influenced Japan, Japanese people were pescetarian. That is a good way to go too. Before I got married, I was mostly pescetarian plus chicken and not much else. She really likes beef, so I changed. As it is though, we rarely eat beef. Maybe once a month or so, and when we do I make sure it isn't American beef. For yakiniku, my wife prefers lamb. That and beef tongue.
Plus that and the fact that most vegans are just annoying.
It's almost like a religion in itself. I can understand and respect a dietary restriction as dictated by a religion, but when the dietary restriction itself becomes like a religion in itself, that's when it becomes annoying.

I'd consider myself an omnivore (in that I try to find a balance between meat and vegetables and some fruit) but I do often lean more on the side of being a carnivore. I'm a pretty skinny guy and I live in a place that's cold for at least 4-5 months a year. Since I don't have a lot of body fat, meat keeps me warmer than vegetables do. Plus, I just like meat. That said, I still stick more to chicken than beef, but I do eat some sort of beef serving at least once a week.
All the documentaries about how they treat animals and how a lot of chicken/beef is processed sketchily doesn't really faze me. As my mother always says, "You don't want to know what most of what you eat has gone through--fruits and veggies included--so just eat it and don't think about it."

A recent trainer of mine told me that vegans are likely to suffer from malnutrition and other health problems. I got nothing against people who choose that life style. If that's your thing, then do it. Just don't force it on me. But hey, that guy who told me that may not be a doctor, but he is a certified and experienced health expert who helps fighters make weight.
I thank Charles Barkley what those documentaries don't faze me either. All the documentaries about how they treat animals and how a lot of chicken/beef is processed sketchily doesn't really faze me. I think the best way to go is with a paleo diet. If you eat what people have been eating for a million years, you'll probably be okay because we've had a million years to evolve around that diet. Grains and dairy aren't on that list, but if you're of indo-europing ancestry you can probably get away with it more.

I just eat what I want, we're all gonna die of something.

Actually, I am rather bothered with how animals are treated. Factory farming is disgusting and it is an embarrassment for the USA. When given a choice when I lived in the USA, I would buy grass-fed beef and free range chicken. I have no qualms about eating animals, and I believe that animals should be raised for food purposes, but I believe that they should be entitled to a healthier, happier life before they become dinner. Cows shouldn't be made to stand knee-deep in their own crap in tiny pens and force fed corn when it is completely against their nature as animals. Organic, grass-fed beef is awesome. Again, it's just clever marketing that began promoting the whole "corn feed beef is so good" BS. Just as the clever marketing that soy is super healthy for you, diamonds are precious gems, etc. It's all clever marketing.
The movie Fast Food Nation was a bit of a disappointment, since it was more of a drama that touched on the topics in the book rather than a documentary. It is still worth a watch, however. Better yet is the documentary Food, Inc. That is a real eye-opener. I was showing it at my family's place and my aunt even became offended by it. The concept of how a farm is, as depicted on food packaging and such, has disappeared. It's no longer like Green Acres, but more like acres of green feces pools that can be smelled for miles around. Funny how the EPA turns a blind eye to that and yet is so concerned with freaking carbon dioxide, which coincidentally is what plants need to grow.
So anyhow, about movies, yesterday I watched Back To The Future Part II with my daughter. It's spring break, and I'm staying at home with her because she isn't feeling well. It's been over 10 years since I've seen this movie. We watched the first movie about a month ago. It's so NEAT watching these movies with my girl! I've shared the original Star Wars trilogy on LD with her, Ghostbusters, and several other movies. I can't wait until she's older so that I can share Alien with her. She likes facehuggers, but she is still too young to watch that one. She's turning 6 fairly soon.

Re: The Latest Movies (Non-Anime) You Are Watching Right Now
Captain America 2 starts today though I will probably go with my friend and his family on Saturday. Good thing General Mills has had the free movie coupons on the cereal boxes the past few months. You can get a 3D movie ticket for the cost of the cereal ($3 - $5)! Others I want to check out:
X-Men Days of Future Past
Spider-Man 2
Guardians of the Galaxy
Godzilla
Maleficent
Edge of Tomorrow
How To Train Your Dragon 2
Transformers: Age of Extinction
Dawn of the Planet of The Apes
Hercules (with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
The Expendables 3
Sin City: A Dame To Kill For
And that's only for the summer! Good thing movies are cheap to go to around here...
On a side note Mr. Peabody was very good. Your 6 year old should like it...

Captain America: The Winter Soldier
I give it a 5 star rating. This has implications for a lot of other Marvel properties including the TV series. Be sure to watch right past the end credits since there are 2 extra scenes (and they are doozies)...
