Started watching Genesis Climber Mospeada. About five episodes in, and really enjoying the character interactions. Also been watching Super Dimension Century Orguss. Almost finished with that series, but I think I'm having more fun watching Mospeada. Maybe it's the transforming motorcycles, or the wasteland vibe.

Been away for too long (see my post in the private section). Some old fansubs and/or tv recordings might be fitting to mark my return... Ah yes, shoddy copies of Dragon Ball Z recorded off the Hong Kong PEARL broadcasts would really hit the spot...

Those are always a great choice to watch!AnimeSennin wrote:Been away for too long (see my post in the private section). Some old fansubs and/or tv recordings might be fitting to mark my return... I did watch a few Pearl episodes; they are indeed always a good choice!
Now going through some GeGeGe no Kitaro. My copies of the first few episodes are in kind of crummy quality, but of course that wouldn't stop something this awesome from being enjoyable.

Ah, I love Kitaro! I really need to watch more of it. Are you watching the original or one of the ones from the 70s/80s/90s?AnimeSennin wrote:I did watch a few Pearl episodes; they are indeed always a good choice!

I have lots of the 80's show subbed from Hawaii. Never got around to capping more than a few. Youtube and Toei frown on showing them now so unsubbed are usually all that gets posted though there used to be the old black and white series on Youtube that was subbed. Might be worth a look.usamimi wrote:Ah, I love Kitaro! I really need to watch more of it. Got my fix for Japanese TV with an app that works on computers (PC and Mac), Android tabs and phones. PM me or details if you want it. I use it to watch Dragonball Super and One Piece on Saturday nights these days...

Such a great show. Right up there with Macross in my opinion! And, yeah, transforming motorcycles? There's not really anything cooler than that.Sentionaut wrote:Started watching Genesis Climber Mospeada. About five episodes in, and really enjoying the character interactions. I'm watching the first episode of Attack on Titan right now. It's on Netflix so I figured I'd check it out.
Right off the bat this fucking kid, who will apparently be the main character, is MAD AS HELL. Like, super fucking angry. Yelling at people. Voice trembling, fists clenched, whole body vibrating. For no legitimate reason! He's mad at some guards because they drank some alcohol. Then he got mad at another random person and hit him with a stick over the head! Now he's mad and screaming at his mom who is screaming back. Now he's yelling at his dad.
I can't deal with this crap. Why are protagonists so angry? It wasn't like this when I was a kid. Rick Hunter never cried tears of rage while screaming some holier-than-thou monolog at confused onlookers.
I need main characters that I like, but I want to strangle this kid.
EDIT: And of course mom dies in the first episode! Total wish fulfillment for all the little shits who they expect to watch this show. "Sweet! No more chores, nobody to tell me what to do!" I'm having flashbacks to Zeta Gundam.

Re: What are you Watching?
I liked Kamille in Zeta Gundam though.
I generally prefer angry protagonists to calm ones. People who have a chip on their shoulder tend to go to more interesting places than placid ones. Ironically enough, I myself am generally very placid and passive in real life...maybe too much so.

I'm watching some 70's episodes. I'd like to see all of these series eventually, though I don't have them all on hand. Wasn't there also another series that came out around 2008? Wonder how Kitaro made out in the post-2000 anime era...

Hey D, nice to talk to you again. It's been awhile!
I may have some of the Hawaiian subtitled GeGeGe no Kitaro around here somewhere; would have to look and see. Anyways, I already took the "easy" route and learned Japanese, so I don't particularly need subtitles anymore, but I know there must be people who want to see these shows translated. There's a guy working on doing just that, actually; I've spoken to him before.
I made it through the opening of Dragonball Super but not much else... How's the quality on the TV application?
