Shizuoka Hobby Show and Summer Wonder Fest

Post by greg »

OK, so I definitely will make it to the Shizuoka Hobby Show on May 19th. I am also thinking about visiting the Summer Wonder Fest on July 29th. School summer vacation is from July 21st to August 28, and I am planning on saving up vacation days to use during this period.

BikeLover, are you planning to attend the Summer Wonderfest?

Thanks for the offer! If I go alone, I will definitely take you up on your offer. If my family comes, my wife would probably want to stay at a hotel. Even if it's perfectly OK with you, she's a J-girl after all, so there is always the kigane factor. She's not the type to intrude on strangers, no matter how welcome she is.

I really don't know what to expect with Wonder Fest or the Shizuoka Hobby Show. Do they forbid photokgraphy? I am not planning on buying anything at the Wonder Fest. I really don't know what to expect. I definitely look at pictures of Wonder Fest on Danny Choo's site as well as some other blogs. The garage kits of space ships from video games, anime and such are really cool.

My in-laws live in Chiba, practically right across the street from Disney Land. Wonder Fest is held at the Makuhari Messe (although I always thought it was at Tokyo Big Site), so that may be an excuse to go visit them. Being Japanese, they are certainly interested in older anime and such, and my brother-in-law, Jun, likes stuff like Kamen Rider and robots and such. I am not sure if I would want to take them to Wonfest though, for fear that there are a bunch of garage kits of anime girls drenched in cum or something. I hope there isn't that kind of stuff there. That would be rather embarassing. If that sort of stuff is there, I hope it is easily avoidable in its own place or something. It would be cool to see some figures of Space Adventure Cobra or Saber from Fate/Stay Night.

I never knew there was a US WonderFEST (not really a big figure/model fan), is the above a Gunstar from Last Starfighter? Or something else entirely?

Weird. It's held in Kentucky of all places? Strange. I imagined it would be held in a more cosmopolitain area than that. Obviously I've never been there, though.

Wow, what a big event! I am glad that the Shizuoka Hobby Show was more than just a trade show for the big companies. A huge room was devoted to model clubs and organizations. Entire displays were dedicated to Gundam, Miyazaki anime, WWII planes, battle ships, cars, model trains, you name it!

This was a much bigger event than the IPMS convention I attended two years ago. It was also free of charge, surprisingly.

Here is the video for part 1:

It's a bit late (and maybe redundant), but here's my video on the Shizuoka Hobby Show:

It was pretty fun. I completely overlooked Plum's display exhibit. D'oh!
