The Old School Otaku Lounge

I'm subscribed to the retroanime subreddit at Reddit and noticed this post by somebody earlier this week who isn't registered to this forum but could probably use the help of some of the old-school tape traders here:

I have been trying to track down Crayon Shin-chan tapes sourced from KIKU-TV in Hawaii for many years now. I own over 200 DVD's of this show, but the KIKU-TV tapes have next episode previews that I would really like to preserve, and they even have some episodes which were never released on DVD. As you can see in this link, there used to be 25+ volumes of Shin-chan floating around 20 years ago: http://alexshay.tripod.com/Mlistt.txt.

I am starting to lose hope that I will ever find these tapes. If anybody has them, or can put me in contact with somebody who has them, I would forever be in your debt. Thanks!

I'm part of a private tracker torrent site and I searched to see of what you were asking for is up there, and alas I did not see it. I do have a torrent for Shin Chan rips from Fox Kids UK, Jetix UK, and Fox 8 Kids Australia if your interested in me getting those for you.

Dang, I wish I still had some! I had a penpal in Hawaii that sent me a few Shin-chan tapes back in the day, but sadly I got rid of them in one of my moves over 20 years ago

Thanks, if it's not too much trouble. My only concern is that since those are probably dubbed, there's a chance the previews chimpoozle is looking for aren't included.

Here's some more background on my search:

Crayon Shin-chan has a rather large number of episodes that are not collected on the (many) DVD releases. Some of these episodes re-air on the CS TV-Asahi channel in Japan. Some have appeared on the TV-Asahi VOD website. A few have appeared online from old original broadcast tapes (even some from KIKU tapes). Some are not available anywhere in Japanese, but can at least be seen in dubbed form from other countries. (Though I collect original Japanese audio only.) However, there is 1 episode from 1994 where none of the above is true. No DVD release, no re-air, no VOD, no original broadcast has surfaced, no dubbed version was ever produced. I think it's a possibility that this episode was captured on a KIKU-TV broadcast.

When I started collecting Shin-chan in 2009 I was missing 162 episode segments (each ep is made up of 2 or 3 segments) and 11 extremely rare comics that aren't sold in the tankobon book releases. I have been searching non-stop since then, have imported old broadcast tapes from Japan, made trades, etc, and now I am missing just 2 episode segments and 0 comics. I have reached out to multiple Japanese fans who have the 1994 episode on tape which contains both segments I'm missing, but they always ignore me. If I could track down the KIKU-TV tapes, it's possible I can finally find this episode, although it's also possible it was not aired on KIKU-TV.

The other reason I am searching for KIKU tapes is that many of them contained the Japanese next episode previews which are now lost to history. The NEP's for this show during the early years had voice-overs that were unique to the preview. Usually banter between Shin and his mom. Some time ago, the banter in one of these previews made me laugh out loud which is when I realized I needed to set out to find and preserve as many of them as possible.

And so, if anybody has any lead on these tapes it would mean the world to me if you could let me know. I'm willing to pay good money for them, or trade something for them. I am losing hope that I will ever find them, but I will not stop searching until I find them or until I croak. Thanks for reading!
