Don't get me wrong I'd revel in the slightest prospects of more of Gunnm's manga to be animated - especially with the original OVAs team aboard but at least you can watch it and get some sense of closure, albeit bleak.

this is probably not only a controversial opinion but an extremely marginal one: my #1 OVA on this hypothetical wishlist has to Apocalypse Zero. The manga is just so imaginatively debauched and fun that I'd have loved to see its entirety animated in all its gory detail.

2nd to that I'd want to see Teito Monogatari (Doomed Megalopolis) completed. The tone is a bit wonky at times, but it also serves excellent nightmare fuel.

at least the characters and overall universe of Trava: Fist Planet was reincorporated into Redline, but I'd have like to see that offbeat style continue for as man installments as it would've taken to tell a complete yarn.

I second Sol Bianca & Bubblegum Crisis (although I accept what we got from BC and love the spinoff OVAs)
Guyver BioBooster Armor (1989-90 version)
Ninja Resurrection was...a weird one that I think about from time to time
Goku Midnight Eye is another OVA series that was never fully adopted from the manga, and we did get the manga in the states.
I had no idea about that being based on a manga. thnx for the heads up. I'm gonna look into it asap. Really enjoy those two OVAs (well, mainly the first one)

Black Lion is another one I wanted to see all the way through. That could use a reboot.

How do you guys think about the Gunsmith Cats OVA? Would you like an entire series that covers the original manga and its sequel?

(On that note, I wonder what Kenichi Sonoda is doing nowadays? He and Manabe Jouji are two late 80s, early 90s mangaka that always stuck in my head. And they did visit American anime conventions in the 90s, didn't they?)

And speaking about Five Star Stories, the movie Gothicmade is set in that universe. Now, if only Nagano allows it to be released on blu-ray.

Sonoda is too busy running his family candy shop of 400 years. Robert Woodhead was kind enough to gift me one of his shop bags on one of his trips like 2 years ago and I got it from him at Animazement. The fact that he can balance the time and energy into the new Riding Bean anime is pretty outstanding I think.

No id love a Gunsmith Cats series to be made, I hope they adapt all of the manga, the manga is superb and is one of my favorites. The OVA made references to the manga such as the first episode with the hidden knife and gun in the fake limbs from the Bonnie and Clyde arc.

a full gunsmith cats adaptation would also be pretty marketable in these times; it'd bring in new and old fans alike.

another unfinished series I recently thought of was 3x3 Eyes. the magical girl angle in it is a bit dated for modern audiences, but it has good main character chemistry and charm. I always enjoy dark occult/supernatural anime that type of genre and aesthetic is presently missed.

Wow, I had go read up on that. I had no idea that's what he was doing these days!

Crazy that a lifetime ago, the guy was basically defining the look of anime character designs for a whole generation. Now he's running an ancient candy shop.

It's pretty wholesome.

As opposed to say Shiro who's just doing porn artbooks now.

This is like a reality that Sonoda and Shiro didn't go down the same path together. That candy shop saved his moral soul lol.

Butting in, in all friendliness, to defend Shirow. He is a known recluse; so it only makes sense that he's turned to a more onanistic exploration of his craft. Furthermore his erotica retains his signature hyper detail and perfectionism. I'd appreciate a copy of Galgrease over a box of Pocky any day.

Sonoda.... moral soul...
I vaguely know someone that roomed with Sonoda and sold dozens of copies of Sonoda's dojinshi... I remember some of that..
... googles up Shirow.... checks wikipedia... googles up greaseberries...follows a few links...
Ok, so since it was Sonoda dojin, there wasn't the little censor boxes but..
um..
Ok, I concede that point.... <click click> ... um.. I forget where I was going with that.

I really do wish that Dragon Half had gotten more anime, since it barely scratched the surface of the wacky stuff covered in the original manga. Elf Princess Rane having a preview for more and then never making any more anime again was also a bit of a bummer.
