Can someone help me identify these fansubs of DBZ?

The roughly mid-90's and earlier (generally pre-Toonami, pre-anime boom) era of anime & manga fandom: early cons, clubs, tape trading, Nth Generation VHS fansubs, old magazines & fanzines, fandubs, ancient merchandise, rec.arts.anime, and more!

Can someone help me identify these fansubs of DBZ?

Post by chibiboi »

So I recently came across a bunch of these subtitled Dragon Ball Z movies from Facebook Marketplace. They appear to be fansubs, but duplicated by a bootlegger. The tapes had nice clamshell cases with slipcovers but the only label on the tapes said "Best collection of karate & martial arts" and nothing else. The movies don't contain any credits either in the beginning or the end, so the only thing I have to go off of are fonts. The opening and ending songs are also left untranslated.

It sure looks like the font that Anime Labs used, but I'm not certain.
