Hiya ^_^
Founding Member of J.A.F.A. the Japanese Animation Fan Alliance.
We had monthly meetings at the Japanese Cultural Institute in Gardena, California then shortly after we moved to a video studio I worked at. The Studio was located at El Segundo High school. I was the kinda weird mexican guy that was always setting up the video equipment. I registered because I was hoping to possible get back in touch with anyone from those days.

Mostly a 80's-90's Mecha guy but really enjoying Yamato 2199.

Wow looking at that now, I'd have to say anything from Artmic is good stuff! I'm a fan of Bubblegum Crisis and Gall Force myself.

Also love your icon, Presence is one of my favorite shorts from Robot Carnival.

Welcome! Bubblegum Crisis is one of my top favorite anime titles of all time. That LA convention sounds pretty cool. It looks like it's remained a "for fans, by fans" venue.

Wow Greg,
Was looking at your Youtube videos. Could Mandai possibly be the largest anime store in japan?
Totally looks larger than any single Mandarake I've seen (Only on Videos, Never been to Japan)

Hmm... tough call. The Mandarake in Nakano is rather large, although it is scattered around the Broadway Building in several locations. Combining them together, they are probably larger than the huge Mandarake in Osaka's Umeda area. Going off my memory from about 10 years ago though, I believe that Mandai may be even bigger. However, Mandai also has stuff that Mandarake doesn't deal with: non-anime DVDs, non-anime CDs, clothing, children's toys, etc.

Unfortunately, the Mandai in Suwa is not as spectacular as it once was. Their retro game selection has been reduced to only cart-only Famicom and Super Famicom games, and their large anime CD selection is practically non-existent.

Welcome to the board, Shawn. I'm so glad that you decided to join us...!

Do tell us about the Japanese Animation Fan Alliance; is there any time in particular that really stands out as being a fantastic memory? If you still keep in touch with anyone from those days, you could always invite them over here for an aging otaku get-together; there have already been a few reunions of sorts here, and those are always fun.
