So sad. >: I have many titles translated by Toren Smith, and Studio Proteus is apart of my anime childhood.

Truly sad. I always loved the character "Smith Toren" in Gunbuster. I was at the first AnimeCon. He really helped bring a lot of anime culture to America.

I saw this story last night and couldn't believe it. Toren Smith was synonymous with translated manga for me for YEARS! His work on the first translation of Nausicaa and Studio Proteus were huge things for me in my early day's of fandom...translated manga wouldn't be anywhere near what it is today without him. Fandom & the manga industry has truly lost a founding father

I met him several times at those early cons. Sad to hear. Also heard that Gerry Anderson passed away a couple months back. Was very sad to hear that as he had influenced so much over the years. A bad day for bad news...
