English Dubs That Are So Bad They're Good

Post by Daniel »

Just for fun, how about it? I know we've had some pretty funky dubs come out; let's take a look...

Might not be what you were expecting, but firstly I'll bring up the Malaysian English dub of Dragonball, which is always good for a chuckle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wG84efH4sw

Does Bible Black count?

Scratch that, does hentai in general count?

I once caught a video on Youtube that was something like a Mobile Suit Gundam ripoff animation from Korea that was dubbed in Thai. All they did was speak over the existing audio track. It was hilariously bad. It tried to be its own story, but the characters were so obviously Amuro and Char. All of Asia pretends to hate Japan, but deep down they know how cool Japanese pop culture is, so they want to copy Japan constantly.

I'll have to find that clip sometime when I am at home and share it.

Chinese movie based on the manga..."The Story of Riki". Bad enough the movie is completely over the top, but the ridiculous dialogue in both the dubbed and subbed versions is something else! It's popular enough to have played on TCM over the past few months...

I TOTALLY agree, this one had some hilarious one-liners added in the dub....hilarious because they were so ridiculous.

Demon City Shinjuku: The final line in the movie-- "Gee, this girl is great."

I'm not a huge fan of this Kawajiri effort but I just might pick up the DVD for the dub alone.

Okay my dears, I have just found out about a "so craptastically awful that it's awesome" show called Space Thunder Kids. Check out this video on Youtube and behold its craptacular glory. This is actually a Korean anime that knocks off pretty much everything imaginable. Thrill at exciting scenes of people staring out of windows, tanks driving pointlessly forever, bizarre eye twitching, and all the while the show can't even decide who the main characters are. You'll see terrible rip offs of Mazinger, Gundam, Yamato, Captain Harlock, Crusher Joe, Raideen, Getter Robo, Red Alert from the Transformers, and even Sark and the MCP from TRON! Holeecrap!

There's an amusing review of this anime on Spoony Experiement.com

I totally want to watch this now!
