No, seriously.

So, the way to revive a brand is to make a series...that has nothing whatsoever to do with the brand. Ah. Well then. Mission Accomplished, it would seem.
"Dare da?" indeed.

God I hate those character designs.

Eek! So it's the UN but in Japan? Do kids in Japan dye their hair a lot? Even the native kids here don't do that much. I think I saw one girl with blond highlights the other day. The others leave it black. So, I guess though they say the bad guys are worldwide, the base if operations is in Japan? Hope the bad guys are operating out of Antarctica then, Gatchaman will be unable to stop them...

I did see a lot of hair coloring on the streets of Tokyo.
That being said, I am going to give this new Gatchaman a big old pass. The original will continue to be watched and loved, while the remake is quickly forgotten, just like the bad Gaiking remake, and the bad Raideen remake, and the other bad Raideen remake, and the....

YIKES. I hadn't seen the new designs yet, but....ugh. I'm not really a fan. :/
And of course the first character listed is a moe-lookin' girl. Of course. What the hell, man.

I wouldn't say they are "bad" designs in and of themselves. It has a very flowery, shoujo flavour.
The problem is that it just isn't Gatchaman.

Well, yeah, that's the crux of the issue.llj wrote:I wouldn't say they are "bad" designs in and of themselves. It has a very flowery, shoujo flavour.

It's almost like they were cranking out some characters for a fighting video game and said "Hey, you know, let's call this Gatchaman...something..."
I know 'changing it up' is a big thing now, that Casshan remake (Cashern Sins, right?) went in a rather odd direction, and the new Lupin III series 'Woman called Fujiko' tried real hard to look like Monkey Punch's art, but this thing...
I guess others with a better grasp of 'current' say this is meant to ride the coattails of 'Tiger & Bunny'.

Crunchyroll reporting it will be broadcast on Friday July 12th:
"Gatchaman Crowds launching on Friday, July 12, 2013 at 11:30am Pacific Time in the following territories: U.S.A, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Netherlands, Turkey, Spain, Portugal, France, the Caribbean, South and Central America"
You can get a free trial of Crunchyroll if you sign up.
The data sheets on the characters say Joe is 29 years old. The design makes him look like he is in his teens! The other characters are also supposed to be older than they look. Is this kind of character design what has been passing for anime in the past little while? Guess I've been out of touch too long...

Know what the sad thing is? They can crap....er...crank out 13 episodes of this and walk away and it won't matter whatsoever. And that's it for yet another Gatchaman revival.
It's funny, this thing actually makes me nostalgic for the '90s OAV. I really thought that thing had potential had it not been crammed into just three chapters.
